06-07 will bring another max player and another legit run.

Also, waiving Grant only saves them in luxury tax, doesn't take his contract off the books (although it expires next year anyway, so your 06-07 timing is still right).

I dont know. Phoenix couldnt hold on to joe johnson....
Yao would compliment Kobe very nicely. He doesn't need the spotlight, in fact he kind of dodges the spotlight. How about KG? Could Kevin and Kobe work together? Either way a max player will have the option of coming to the Show and that might be enough to get us back on top. |

No chance. They still owe Grant $29 million (!!!)...and who is going to want to come play with Kobe? The guy is a cancer...
Phil won't hang around, Kobe isn't going anywhere, neither are the Lakers.

Well I've heard 2 people who wouldn't mind coming to the lakers to play with Kobe. Jalen Rose said he would play for the lakers on Best Damn Sports Show and Baron Davis on the radio was hoping to come to the Lakers last year before he got traded to the Warriors. Kobe had more of an issue playing with Shaq cause he always came in out of shape and didn't put an effot all the time. Here's an interesting article.

Kobe has issues with everyone who wants the ball not just Shaq. Amare is not going to see the ball coming his way playing with Kobe.

Baron Davis is a nice player, Jalen is way past his prime...either way, I don't see guys like that leading a Lakers renaissance. I think the argument that big time players want to play in LA is true...the Lakers just have to get rid of Kobe first. Gonna be tough to draw players with that cancer on the team. |

The point is, the guys that will be available when the Lakers have cap space won't be as good as you think/hope. Like I said, Amare's not moving, and I find it very unlikely that Yao will. Why would Yao leave T-Mac to play with Kobe? If anything, that's a lateral move, not moving forward. As for Garnett, I don't think his contract ends until 08 or 09....so keep waiting on that one. |

Yao would probably like Los Angeles better... for overall environment... I'm pretty sure there are more chinese people here in Los Angeles... So even though its basically a lateral movement... he moves to a environment that he might consider more confortable... chinatown is very close to the staples center... alhambra is like 20 min away... which is basically another chinatown... Grant must love this move by the lakers... making 15 million... and doing nothing... |

There are probalby more chinese in Los Angeles but it's not exactly like Houston is short of chinese either. I really don't think there will be a difference in that regard. That and with the traffic issues in Chinatown and Alhambra/Montery park area I'm not sure I wouldn't pick Houston myself.
