High School Basketball Score 112-2

This is sad and embarassing. Why wouldn't you just call the game?

Quote:
EARLSBORO, Okla. (AP) - The Hanna High School basketball team can take some consolation: It didn't get shut out.

It did, however, lose 112-2 on Friday night to Earlsboro.
"It was embarrassing to watch," Earlsboro coach Jim Walling told The Oklahoman. "But you can't just tell your kids not to score. I've been coaching 27 years and have never been involved in something like this."

The Wildcats led 42-0 after one quarter and 73-2 at halftime. Walling pulled his starters in the second half, and game officials kept a running clock, stopping it only for free throws.

Each player on Earlsboro's 10-man boys' roster scored. Seven players finished in double figures.

you CAN tell your kids not to score. also, he should have pulled his starters sooner.

i was told by my HS softball coach to strike out because we were pitifully creaming the opposing team. i did it. that's called showing some compassion, and not being relentless and greedy.

tell them to pass the ball a lot more, and use up the clock on every possession. keep the score lower.

on defense, use different strategies that you haven't practiced.

he could've been a little more compassionate.

Wow. Speechless.

I don't think passing the ball around more would display any more sportsmanship, but it is better than scoring non-stop.

I would love to know how many shots the team that lost actually took.

I mean did you just miss that many times or did they just not get alot of chances to shoot....if they did get lots of shots then wow, just wow

I am terrible at basketball and i could make 2/30 shots

They could have done so many things...

Waste some clock, run some pseudo-four corners offense.
Shoot more jumpers instead of looking for easier shots inside.
Played a softer zone defense to allow for easier shots by the other team.

Beating someone by 110 points, and there was nothing that could be done about it? Just not buying it...

How can they only score 2pts. I think if I played a 1v5 game by myself I could score more then two points. Throw up some wild shots, some must make it sometime...

I don't see how you can't score more then 2 points.

that's just dumb... the coach should have ran some weird stuff that we wishes to try... waste clock... or tell his team to shoot once they pass the arc... lots of options... but to beat a team like that isn't right...

If I'm on the other team, I'm going to be mad if someone intentionally doesn't keep trying. No mercy for me, kick my butt if you can. (And in basketball, no doubt that pretty much everyone can).

On the other hand, don't be overly agressive. To relate it to baseball (since I don't know basketball very well), don't be stealing bases if you're winning by 20 runs. But if you keep getting hits, then by all means, pour it on!

i coached this girls vball team once, and they were all new at playing, so we usually lost pretty bad.

this one coach switched his entire line up during one of our time outs. and it really pissed off my players, so you know what happened?....we still lost, but my point is that it's kinda messed up that it happened. win b/c you can, and as long as you're not jerks about it, good for you. we'll practice harder for next time.

I'm with all of the ones that said they would rather the team keep playing. Unless the game is called (which has happened before and can in School sports) then why stop giving it your best. At the least you are getting a free practice out of it.
