XM signs three-year deal with Oprah Winfrey
XM signs three-year deal with Oprah Winfrey
Updated: 8:35 a.m. ET Feb. 9, 2006 NEW YORK - XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. Thursday said it signed a three-year $55 million deal with Oprah Winfrey to host a talk show on the top U.S. subscription radio service. The new show, called “Oprah And Friends,” is scheduled to launch next September. XM’s smaller rival in the U.S. satellite radio market, Sirius Satellite Radio Inc., has already inked a number of high-profile deals, most notably a five-year $100 million contract with shock radio personality Howard Stern. XM also has exclusive deals with Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and PGA Golf. XM said the Oprah deal will not affect its target to break even on a cash flow basis by the end of this year. The company, which currently has more than 6 million subscribers, said its goal to reach 9 million subscribers by the end of the year is also unchanged. Sirius, by comparison, has more than 3 million subscribers. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/11252743/ |

When is she going to have time for that on top of everything else she does?

I think that the Oprah one is $55 million over three years (~$18 million/year), and Stern's is $100 Million PER YEAR for 5 years.

Time to snatch up some more XM stock. Maybe some Sirius too, just to cover both bases. Anyone else have a good tip. "Insider info" welcome!
Personally, I think the Stern deal will be a big flop. Stern ain't worth that price. Oprah, yes. Howard, No. |

They way overpaid for her name. As I understand it, her show will be 30 minutes per week. What will they do for the other 167.5 hours per week?
Not bad for 26 hours of work per YEAR. |
