OMG - Guy I had dinner with the other night's finish in the Boston Marathon

My family had some people over for the first seder last week and the husband was talking about how he was preparing for the Boston Marathon. Sure enough on the news tonight he was one of the people mentioned for their finish in the race! The guy won his division/age group!

It was funny how he was saying the seder dinner was just the ticket for fueling his body for the race. I guess it worked. Kind of neat.

Seder is the name of the meal, like "Thanksgiving Dinner," not any particular food item.

Right?

Well, if it was the Passover meal, I wouldn't be surprised if lamb was on the menu.

Yeah, but come on...my answer was funny.

And kg beat me to it. I was just gonna add "pretty much matzo and gefilte is a safe bet for your stereotypical Jewish get-together meal, topped off with some Manischewitz."

A seder is the name of the meal - as was already pointed out. That particular night was the following:

During the seder ritual, you eat parsley dipped in salt water (bitter herbs and the salt to show our tears), matzo (because when they left in a hurry the bread did not rise), matzo with fresh cut horseradish (bitter herbs - to remember the bitter times of our ancestors), matzo with charosets (Charosets is a mixture of apple, walnuts, wine and honey..although it can be made differently - it is to symbolize the mortar used to build the pyramids), fresh horseradish and charosets sandwich (a particular rabbi damned us all to eat this bitter herb sandwich as it was how he interpretted the rule - 2 pieces of horseradish surrounding charosets). And 4 glasses of wine.

Set out for people to eat at any time:
Matzo and Charosets

Course 1:
Hard boiled egg and fresh chopped liver

Course 2:
Gefilite fish (served with fresh made "white lightning" horseradish)

Course 3:
Home made Matzoh ball soup (Chicken soup with Matzo balls)

Main course:
Brisket - sweet-n-sour
Mashed Potatoes
Brussel Sprouts
String beans (Not for those keeping passover - made by mistake)
Kugel - pineapple and cherry (a kugel is a noodle dish made with cheese and noodles...in this case it also had cherries and pineapple)

Desserts:
Chocolate Moose cake
Jellies
various chocolates and Finger cakes
Almond cake

As the guy said, TONS of carbs and the perfect meal to load up on.
