American Inventor
Anyone else watching American Inventor? I started out laughing at it, but it's actually pretty good. Maybe because it appeals to the engineer in me.
The funny ones are pretty good to watch (Therapy Buddy!), but it's also cool to see what they're doing with the inventions. I definately have some favorites. Seems like two of the best are on tonight's episode, I wish they could both move on. |

I just hate that pompous ass of a judge who "knows everything".

I was channel flipping and saw the last couple of minutes. Some guy converted a suit bag to his own personal outhouse he said he tried at a bus stop.

Last night they were doing the best of the worse followed by the actual new episode. So far the pattern I see is something new and niche but overly specialized. Last night it was a two-seater bike that has been done before but the seat is loaded in the front and it's detachable. The other week was some sort of trainer for catching footballs which I personally have never seen anywhere else and certainly has an audience in high school football programs.
I liked the idea of the sackmaster 2000 that makes it much easier to create sandbags but the inventor was highly resistant to change. He used half the money into packaging the product and a little for himself out of 50K. And the only improvement was he added a strap that looked like it was made from a shoestring and tape. He should have invested the money in a carrying strap or tapered the tube so you could stack them inside each other or even make it collapsible.

I really liked the Niya doll, but it didn't really seem like an 'invention'. It seemed like a semi-twist on a normal product.
The bike thing was pretty cool too. It'd be interesting to try and ride that. There have been some not so good ones that have made it far too ( 'unbrella' ). The worst of is pretty funny too (just like American Idol). The dude with that therapy buddy just freaked me out. It sounded like the voice I'd expect to hear if an alien abducted me and was trying to calm me down. |

Did anyone see the 12 year old boy who invented a portable air conditioner that hooks onto the car window and keeps the car cool for your dog while you're out and about. Everything about him, his ingenuity, passion, blew me away but the shot of him and his mother almost brought me to tears.
Zippy, you just missed it. It was right before they showed the guy with the portable potty raincoat. Too funny! |
