I have a question. Are these hackable? That is, can I capture a signal and make all the lights in someones house go crazy. Because if so, that sounds like mad mischief fun.

Impressive. What stores are they in? I see a phone number, a VA address, etc., but where can we go to check them out?

5. How does the Lightning® Transmitter work with no batteries?
The Lightning® Transmitter converts the mechanical
action of pushing its button into enough electricity to
send a coded radio frequency signal to the Receiver.
Pushing the Transmitter button “plucks” a piezoelectric
device called Lightning® -- originally developed by
NASA and used on the International Space Station. It’s
Lightning® that generates the electricity. That’s why
Lightning® remote controls never need batteries. In
normal home use, they can work for decades and never
“wear out” and never “get weaker”.

^--- a little OT, but why don't they make tv remotes that utilize this tech?

Looks interesting.

I have a couple of X10 controls in my house. How does your product differ from their line of products?

See last thread. If I recall correctly, the main difference is: no batteries and different frequency.

I'm going to assume that it's a rotating code. Otherwise, it doesn't matter how big the code is.

Seems like a lot of extra expense just to not have a battery to replace every few years.

It's a "green" alternative and it qualifies for a tax credit.

It's not for everyone or for every purpose but it has it's niche

I have an idea. This one is free but you might have thought of it before. On the electrical outlet side, rather than the electrical plug how about a device that goes between the balast and the bulb. This way a person in a cubical could modulate the light above him without much wiring. Or a person at home could install it on a lamp without having to mess with a socket that's hard to reach.

I hope you patent that idea before BS does. *races to patent office*

Oh and a few years ago, someone patented an idea to install piezo-whatcmacallits under the sidewalks of NYC to power the traffic lights. With all the foot traffic in NYC it was a good candidate to do this.

i think that's what this one does:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=228013

though, not as simple as on the bullb socket. this is for any wiring inside the ceiling. instead of having to feed a wire to the switch on a wall. stick in one of these jammies, and put the switch anywhere you want.
could be useful for office spaces that are always constructing/deconstructing their spaces - different cube positions = different light, etc...
