good news and bad news

We had another round of layoffs yesterday and let a lot of good people go.

After the affected people were gone I was asked to meet with the head of our sales group and he said that they were re-assigning me to the aftermarket group as a district sales person in the Great Lakes Region.

This means I will no longer call on just one account, I will be traveling around the Midwest calling on truck dealerships. It means more frequent travel but for shorter time periods. It also means moving into a group I perceive to have fewer opportunities to advance my career.

I was asked if I'd like to take the position but was also told that my current position is being eliminated so the alternative isn't great.

I told them I would likely accept but need to talk it over with my wife first.

I think the job would be a lot of fun but also believe it's not really where I had envisioned my career path going.

Not sure what to do. Probably take it and see how I like it and then look elsewhere if I'm unhappy.

BTW, same pay & benefits. Might actually get to work from home though which would ROCK.

Look at it this way..... Buy a bluetooth head set, forward your new office phone at your house to it, then just ride all day and do business while riding :-)....... The only way to look at it right now is to hunker down, dont cause waves, and hope if it turns out to be that bad that you find something else or it opens a new door.

Pawn it off on your replacement. Oh, is that your old boss? Maybe he should prioritize his time better...

I don't need you to but you said you need answers to the several inquiries you sent today. That's the only one I could find from today.

If you are planning to work, I will be looking for responses to the several inquiries I asked you about today - with limited time available, I need for you to give these open items a big last push.

Boss,
I'm afraid I might be coming down with whatever my wife had. Chances are I'll be working from home tomorrow.

Thanks

Cheapie

went through everything. not only had he not sent me inquiries, everything we had discussed via email had been followed up on via email and phone calls.

Don't you love when the 'boss' would rather waste 5 minutes of your time making you go back and forth on e-mail rather than take the 20 seconds it would take to actually respond.

'I need you to be efficient with your time. At least when I'm not wasting it!'

nope. supposed to start next month. i've had to really keep it quiet here in the office because the re-org is going to affect others here. in fact, i was worried that the few people i told had let it slip. and since the head of our sales group said that those that talked would be part of the layoffs, i was sweating it a bit.

we have a dept meeting this afternoon to discuss the changes so i'll be able to talk more openly with mgmt here about what's going to happen and when.
