Green jobs struggle to pay a living wage

I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing. In the long run a change in the pay scale for manual labor will make us more competitive in manufacturing. One lesson from this is that if you want a good paying job you need a college degree. It's tough to make a case for someone with only a high school degree starting at $28 an hour.

Jeez, could not agree more. Bringing unskilled labor back down to unskilled wages could make a HUGE impact in being competitive in manufacturing again.

I don't understand where the demand is for windmills, electric cars and solar panels. They are not cheap even with the energy credits. And with the economy in the tank, what segment of the population can afford these inefficient use of energy devices?

New and developing industries always pay less. They do not have the profit margins to be able to afford to pay more- unless they require highly skilled labor which is in short supply then they have to to be able to attract them. Nothing surprising there.
I think demand for them has probably slowed- for two reasons. One the recession- less extra money for things like that. Second, lower costs for other energy sources. Oil and gas are half what they were just last summer. The cost of the systems compared to the savings on your bill are just not there right now. You will still find people willing to put money say into a solar system- not necessarily for the financial returm but because they want to do the "right thing" for the environment.
