NYC Woman Sues College Over Her Failure to Find a Job

http://www.cnsnews.com/public/conten...x?RsrcID=51907

New York (AP) - A New York City woman who says she can't find a job is suing the college where she earned a bachelor's degree.

Trina Thompson filed a lawsuit last week against Monroe College in Bronx Supreme Court. The 27-year-old is seeking the $70,000 she spent on tuition.

Thompson says she's been unable to find gainful employment since she received her information technology degree in April.

She says the Bronx school's Office of Career Advancement hasn't provided her with the leads and career advice it promises.

Monroe College spokesman Gary Axelbank says Thompson's lawsuit is completely without merit.

The college insists it helps its graduates find jobs.

I guess it was bound to happen eventually but I still can't believe someone had the cojones to file a lawsuit like this. Funny, I was of the understanding that the school provided an education in exchange for tuition. It's a shame that the school can't rescind the degree.

even if they hadn't helped her at all it's still her responsibility to find a position herself... what a taint.

What's funny is that this is now in the news. Anybody doing a background check will see this story and refuse to hire her because they'll worry she'll sue the company for something stupid like "I wasn't getting the compensation I was told I could get here"

I was just thinking that. She just screwed herself royally.

That's what happens when you give your kid too much of a sense of entitlement.

Does the school have any "Guarantee" on job placement? It doesn't sound like it from the article, just 'help finding a job' But I have seen some colleges/"universities" that GUARANTEE job placement.. in which case they would be breaking that contract. But it doesn't sound like the case here.

I would like to know what degree she got. Probably basket-weaving or pre-law.

Something that's probably definitely not very good to have right in the middle of the recession.

Silly. I came out during an upswing and still had to fight a bit to get a job.
It's really not that hard. Look, apply, interview well, get accepted.

If you only apply to 100k places out of the gate, you will probably have a low success rating.

heck i took a couple years off for grad school and came out to an hourly job, and then finally got picked up at a salary job. But whatever, green pays the bills, even if you are working along side kids half your age and half your intelligence.

It all a matter of excepting what is offered. And interviewing well as well. You can have plenty of degrees, and not do well in interviews.. and good luck.
