Mobile Alabama
I post some of my opinions on a prominent investment oriented website. One of my comments yesterday regarded America's declining manufacturing base. I said that as long as Asian countries can find workers who will work for a few bucks a day, we will never be competitive,
Well, this riled up one of the other commenters so bad that he called this an immature belief and take a look at Mobile Alabama. So I googled Mobile and I find they are doing pretty good. Their manufacturing appears to be only 9% of their workforce, though, but I am unsure of those figures. Anyone know about the economy there and if manufacturing jobs are increasing or decreasing and why? |

I wouldn't call that an immature belief since it's a long held belief that even I have. China has started outsourcing it's manufacturing to Honduras lately.

change asian to 3rd world nation and you could be right...
anyone remember the commercials in the early 90s that showed a family packing up, with a little kid asking his mom why they're moving. and then the end said something like, buy american because it matters. i think they just totally gave up now.. |

ThyssenKrupp will be processing steel there come spring... They've just started training their workforce. They're also looking for foreign trade zone status.
Say what you will about Alabama - there are far worse places to be in this day and time...
