Whatever they were doing, it was illegal. Is posting news statements (depends whether they are public or private I guess) like this "insider trading" or something else illegal?

If it were insider information that was not available to the public it would be. In this case, he's quoting information from a press release that occured Monday (the beginning of this week), so it's public information.
