government grants

anybody know anything about getting them? there's that one guy in the questionmark suit on TV that says it's soooooo easy. 'cording to him i can get 20k to open a coffee shop which, coincidentally enough, is what i'd like to do.

anyway, i figure that guy is a scam but are there really governemt grants that the average joe can get?

Yes their are grants out their to get. I read an artical in the news paper about 2 or three years ago. This girl in 9th or 10th grade applied for grants from corps, gov and other places. She got enough money to payfor 4 years of collage, books, food, car, and a place to live. All for freeee. Oh their are seminere on how to file for the grants too.

Hey BI,

I was looking for the same thing and came across this site:
http://govbenefits.gov/

It looks like that's a better fit for what you're looking for.

mmm..I am not totally sure, but I think government grants or subsidies are included in income in the year they are received. Grants qualify under the "gross income" definition as all income from whatever source derived unless specifically excluded by law.

I'll try to check up on that...sorry..no definite answer!

In my work I deal with grants all the time, and if you're looking for government grants, http://www.grants.gov is a good place to start. Not sure how many grants to individuals they have, because I only use it for work, but give it a shot.

is it true that you have to pay taxes on welfare??? (i'm thinking that welfare is a form of grant, and if they tax that, then yea.. grants are taxed) my logic right?

It's the American dream, the big handout.

As for the post below: absolutely its "free money". It came from other people.
