Starting a business?
Hey, does anyone have any ideas of any good places where I could learn about starting a business? Assuming I know nothing (good assumption), what are some good remedial sites/books/articles, etc.. Things like starting the business (money, insurance, etc...), and selecting a business, location, etc...
In case anyone is wondering, I"m not looking at doing anything in the near term. 5-10 years out, however, I'd like to think that I might be able to start looking at starting a business. Thanks! |

Call your mayor's office and ask if there are any programs available in your area-usually there are a few that help people wanting to start businesses get on their feet-naturally, you'll need a business plan (or the idea of one) prior to getting started in any business if you are going to get grants and small business loans from the city.

What kind of business? I have a few books but they are industry specific, so they will either help a lot or not at all.

The "For Dummies" books typically have good generic information and I can't imagine them not having a book about starting a business. If you don't have much knowledge about the subject already, then this would probably be a decent place to start and the books don't cost a great deal.

Good thinking on the Dummies books. I didn't think of that, although I should have, since they have one of those for everything.
As I'm looking at starting a business in a few years, I don't have any particular industries or sector down. Basically, I'm open to ideas. I think my current favorite is a liquor store. Does anyone here have any expereience with starting a business, or currently run their own? Just wondering if you'd like to share any expereiences with us. |
