In speaking with my friend who is seeking jobs similar to yours, background checks/security clearances are typically granted by government agencies when you apply for jobs with them. Typically the hiring party will arrange for a background check/security clearance when they make a conditional job offer.
I hope this helps. |

I don't know of any specifically, but there are third party companies that perform background checks for security clearances. The problem is that it is typically very expensive.

There are some jobs (Gov) that already require you to have a certain type of clearance. Most entry level jobs will just have your obtaining a clearance part of the requirement for the job. Basically they hire you, but if for any reason the goverment does not issue you a security clearance, than they can terminate you.

To obtain a government security clearance you need to fill out the EPSQ (Electronic Personal Security Questioner). The process can take a long time to complete. By the time you are done you will have covered at least the last five years of your life. Typically the company that is hiring you covers the cost of the investigation.
In my case it took 14 months before my clearance went “final”. You should be granted an interim clearance within a couple of days of submitting your paper work unless you have any felonies on your record. If you do go through the process, keep in mind they are looking for honesty. Even if you have done stupid things in the past, be completely honest. You may or may not be required to interview with the investigator as well. The three things that they frown upon most are Drugs, Debit, and Drinking Top Secret is a whole new world. Sometimes a polygraph is required. Good Luck! |

A typical background check that will grant you a Top Secret clearance will take at least 6 months and costs nearly $100,000 in man hours and fees. Most of the time, when you apply to a job that requires a security clearance (be it secret or TS), they are looking for someone who already has the necessary clearance. They arent willing to invest the time or money to take a chance on somebody.
