how to find a job recruiter/head hunter?

anyone know of a reputable job recruiter/head hunter? instead of going through a website, i'd rather speak directly to an experienced person. thanks!

If you sign up ON A website.. you will speak directly too them and if you live in a major city.. most of them have offices there.. I know a bunch of military headhunters in san diego.. but not sure about just regular ones.

Could try the phone book. They usually have areas they specialize in. You could call and ask questions and schedule an informational meeting to see if you would work with each other as well as finding out their fees. Good luck!

Have a look at Monster & whatever other job boards you can think of, and look the ads in your area - lots of times recruiters will post their ads just like companies do. Rather than applying directly for a praticular job, look for the recruiting agency that seems to cover a lot of positions in your area of interest, then just contact them directly & ask to speak to a recruiter.

Tell them exactly what you're looking for, including salary & timeframe when you want to make a switch, and let them go to work.

I know of a few in various places throughout the country and have a friend that could probably refer someone from any part of the country if you want to give me a location.

I have suddenly started getting lotsa calls from updating my resume on Monster and they aren't stupid crap like insurance sales, but actually interesting jobs. Too bad most are in corporate finance, exactly where I don't want to go.

What area are you looking in?

i'm looking for government work in foreign affairs and national security doing research or policy analysis.

NGO work dealing with international development is also a field i'm interested in.

i just applied for an associate civil affairs officer position at the UN.

if Baltimore's a viable option, and you'd be willing to work in a non-profit org, i have a couple friends that work at www.wr.org .

if that's something you'd be interested in, e-mail me.
