Do You Feel Safe with an ING Account?

I was ready to deposit a large amount of money into ING and read all the fine print. Maybe since I have never used online banking, I'm a little hesitant.

Anyone use ING and feel safe with it?

I feel completely safe with it. I know many others that do as well. It's also FDIC insured, which is great.

i've been using it for about a year now. Not that the following necessarily makes ING trustworthy, but:

1. i saw tons of commercials for ING when i was in Canada. I think the bank is much bigger and more popular there.
2. There's an ING building near Santa Monica, Ca.

I've been completely happy with them, since I joined. Granted I've never had a huge amount of money in there (I think I maxed out @ $5,000).

I've banked with ING online now for about 4 years and have had no complaints or issues. I doubt that their policies differ from those of other major banks that offer online banking.

They're a huge Dutch bank. There should be no reason to feel any concern.

Where does your hesitation lie? I have used them and called and always great great customer service. Why the worrying. I would be more hesitant with a bank like emigrant direct or some of the others people are touting here over them. They do insurance, investments, mortgages, and more.

ING DIRECT (the operating name of ING Bank, fsb) is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware with innovative ING DIRECT Cafés in Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles where you can experience what Orange is all about!

Our unique approach to banking is backed by ING (NYSE:ING), a global financial institution of Dutch origin offering banking, insurance and asset management to over 60 million private, corporate and institutional clients in more than 50 countries. ING employs over 112,000 people in 65 countries, including more than 11,000 in the US, and has been operating in America for over 100 years. Your money is also FDIC Insured up to $100,000 giving you further peace of mind.

hey!

I don't know about emmigrant, but emigrant direct is a reputable bank.

emigrant direct is the online bank of emigrant savings bank, which has been around the NYC area for a long long time:
http://www.emigrant.com

Having grown up in the area, and seeing them every now and then, hearing their radio advertisements over and over, and most importantly, being FDIC insured.... I think they're trustworthy.

Some people are turned OFF by the higher than average Interest Rates that the online banks offer. But the whole deal is.. They can afford to offer higher than Average because they don't have bank buildings all over the nation to support.. ING Direct although being part of ING Bank, does not have to worry about the same overhead.

They also dont do paper postal mailings of statements, only of privacy policy changes. That saves a good amount of money as well.

What's your problem with it, Johnny? What did you see in the fine print that makes you hesitant?

I've had an ING account for 3-4 years. My only concern is that it takes 2-3 days to get your money. I can't imagine a circumstance where I'd want all that money in less time, but its still in the back of my mind.

ING is one of my company's largest clients, we do a lot of business with them and their subsidiaries. They are quite large and reputable. They handle everything from banking to investments. My wife and I are looking into opening an account with them as well.

Another thing people are turned off by is the Offering of Money to sign up. Granted it attracts people as well, but a lot of people look at it as a marketing trick that can't be good. But so far I have had no problems with them, right now I only have about 2000$ in there though.

ING is okay, but there are many other fully insured banks offering much higher interest rates. These rates are nicely displayed besides one another on www.bestcashcow.com. As long the bank is FDIC insured, it's really safe and you might as well get the best rate out there.

I thought that I saved the terms and conditions, but since I didn't sign up, I guess it wasn't saved.

I remember reading about how they could change their terms at any time. Plus their PIN is only 4 digits long. Couldn't someone use a generator and keep trying to access your account? Plus they asked for my SS Number, which I hate to give online. I forget the other reservations I had.
Plus with that thing about a month ago with the credit card fiasco affecting so many people.

At least with credit cards you are only responsible for $50. And if you buy a protection policy, there is no possible out of pocket expenses.

My local bank is online now. They claim if there is a security breach that they will cover every dollar. Will ING do the same?

I wouldn't Say a "many other" .. There are a lot of those that are either A) Introductory or B) Large Minimum Deposit.. Some upwards of 250,000$ or more...

ING Does me just fine

Also in reply to johnny on the parts I remember reading just now ..

Your Pin is 4 Digits.. But it also has a Bank account number that you will need.. and it asks security verification information that changes everytime you login .. from Last 4 of social.. to First 3.. to Last 3 to Zip Code.. Etc.. All in Random Orders..

Im not sure if they offer to cover it from theft.. not sure though.. you could call them.

As for Social.. I gave them mine.. and I havent had anyone steal my Identity.. Neither have the people that have been members for 4 years They are also in good standing with the Better Business Bureau..

I think someone is a little paranoid. Any bank requires you to give them your SSN no matter what bank it is. With ING you also have, as someone else has already mentioned, your account number, your pin, and 5 or six other pieces of info they ask randomly. There is not a check card or debit card, so it can't be stolen. The only way for someone to get access to your ING account is by having a keystoker reader on the computer you use. You have bigger problems at that point. When you want money it is done electronically. Also to get money out they would have to call and I am sure verify other info as well otherwise, or they only get money into your linked account which they don't have that full number in there either. Also if you aren't paying attention and someone gets access, sets up another linked account, and you don't notice, then you are just plain stupid becuase it takes a few days for that to happen. So they only way to get money from you is to call up and request a check. If they do that they will verify your address and the person will say no that is not it. Then will then update in the computer and you will get an e-mail I am pretty sure. So if you check your e-mail you could stop it then as well. Also FDIC Insured is FDIC insured whether they go broke, someone holds up the place, or they do it online, its all the same they will cover it, but you can call and verify I am sure. The CC comment has no bearing on this beucase it is not the same at all. Also those better rates have many stipulations, there are some that are better but I like ING's rep. Also you have all the same issues with many of the other banks as well if you want to open an account JMHO
