Question regarding best way to handle portions of upcoming move?
I am trying to figure out the best way to handle this. My wife and I are still out in San Diego and the intent is to move as soon as possible. While I am waiting for my bar results, I have been sending out resumes and doing the "virtual pavement pounding" long distance. I figure that in the event that I get an interviews while I am still in California, I would get a flight out for the interview and/or see if they want to do part of it over the phone. (My coverletter clearly states that I am in the process of moving back to Florida, but uses all of my California contact information as that is current.)
I think the fact that all of my contact information is in California is hurting my chances for getting an interview, but I am unsure of what the best course of action is in this situation. I will get my results in the near future and hopefully the other portion will be in before then, meaning I can be sworn in immediately. As I see it, if I am still out in CA, employers may not want to bother trying to interview me as they are worried about me actually coming back in. However, I feel like its putting the cart before the horse to move back before getting a job. I can always use my Dad's address as my listed address,which would be in state and thus take away any negative onus about me not being there. I could also just get a PO box there, which would really be mine rather than using my Dads address, but thats neither here nor there. What does everyone think....is my presence in another state while applying going to hurt me or am I just worried about nothing? If it is going to hurt me, should I just try to get rid of the appearance of being in another state or should I get over to Florida immeidiately and look in person? Thanks.

It's possible that some companies may be overlooking you because of the address, knowing they do not have the money to pay you for relocating.
Maybe you should consider using both addresses. Use your Dad's, and also show your's in California which you could label as "temporary." |

I applied for a job in Delaware. When i went out to interview, every person that I talked to asked why would I want to leave california to come here.... I had a great interview, but I think the california background killed my chances. But I dont think I would have moved out there anyways, unless i got $$$$$$.
