Where do you keep your savings?

Where do you guys keep most of your savings and why?

I'm currently in the process of moving my funds from ING to Citi (4.15% --> 4.5%).

I keep almost all of my money in mutual funds via my broker (Edward Jones). I am retired and want "preservation of capital", with maybe a little growth. For me I make a higher percentage of return than the institutions you listed.

Yes, I believe the stock market is cyclical and some day (when?) it will turn down. But I am in funds that ellow me to move back and forth from one fund in the family to another without any fees so believe I am also protected when stocks go down and I may need to be in bonds, or something else.

is there an interest rate calculator anywhere that calculates how much the rate difference would make?

I keep most of it in my brokerage account at Scottsdale Securities. The cash rate is not very competitive but I try and keep most of my funds fully invested in equities. I really don't like money sitting around as cash in any account.

I currently have my cash savings in my broker account. Their money market fund has a good return (4.25%) right now, and I keep my money there between equity positions.

i dont have "savings" per se.

i use my company's employee stock purchase plan, where i designate a portion of my salary per paycheck towards purchasing our company stock at a 15% discount. I max it out. i let it sit there til i need it, and then just sell stocks when i need em. When i sell them, the company lets me sell it at FULL price.
if the stock price stay the same, i make a good chunk of change. if the stock goes up, then i make a HELLUVA chunk of change. If it goes down, bah! i'd keep it in there. On the average my company does very well in the market, so im not worried.
since i treat it as a savings account, i dont really need to touch it.

but that plasma screen is calling on me.....

HSBC for me. I have the online saving and checking accounts with them. If I want quick cash, I just write the check to myself and cash it at Wamu (I do keep a min balance with B&M bank).
