Right now?

I put away 9%. My company matches 50% up to that, so I'm effectively getting 13.5%.

I do 10% plus 4% gets matched.
I wish my 10% equaled the 14k limit

I've already maxed out the 14k for this year. Maxed out last year as well. A 401k is pretty much the best thing you cando with your money. Max it out if possible.

Boy what jobs do the rest of you have that allows you to stock 14K away already. I was doing 10% plus 3% match. I dropped to 3% to be able to save up for the wife not working for a few months once the little one is born, but would I love to put away 14K. OK what do I need to do to put away 14K a year????????

My company matches 50% on the first 5% of salary put into the 401k. I put the 5% in there, and have about 4% going to other secure investments.

Are you open to all options, or just the legal ones? (j/k, of course)

Be mindful of proportioned company matches so that you don't max out before the end of the year. There's nothing for them to match if you max out early.

It is not really fair for me. I get my annual bonus (the bulk of my salary) early in the calendar year so my contributions tend to be somewhat front end loaded.

And how can you put away more? The answer is simple....increase your percentage and just plain deal with it. If you restrict your pay I'm pretty sure you'll adapt. And at the end of the year you'll be much better off.

$14k is the tax limit. You can put more money in your 401k, however it will not be excluded from your income.
