Hi,
I Think i have fried my processor on my linux server. My friend pulled out the processor, jsut to look at the pins i guess, and put it back in the wrong position. I've heard that this shorts the processor, and i did see some smoke coming off the motherboard . Now the computer will not boot, it has the same beeps with the shorted processor in as it does with the processor removed entirely. So, what can i do about this? I know the obvious solution is to buy a new processor, but here's the problem - its an AMD k5 133(socket 3). Its ancient, but it runs linux decently well w/o GUI. i haven't been able to find one anywhere, and i'm also concerned that the mobo is toast too because of the little smokey smokey incident. I'd be willing to buy a new mobo and processor if i could find one that will fit in this case. Does anyone know anything about this? any advice will be much appreciated. |

what kind of case do you have? if you are concerned that the case is rather small, check out microATX form factor motherboards.
