i was wondering which is the best solution to get the best video quality out of my PS2: S-Video or Composite Video? I saw both of these @ my local FRY's, both gold plated, and both saying that they were able to get a more better picture quality ... the Fry's people are no help (idiots)so i was wondering if there was anybody out there who could explain the difference and recommend which one i should buy.

Anyways, the way they both work, is that S-video is a digital video signal, instead of a analog one like in a RCA cord. As a result you get a sharper, more vibrant picture.

I believe composite is digital also, not sure, but what I do know, is that it saparates the different colors and signals to input in to the tv, so it's a more pure signal that the TV recieves. As a result, even better picture than S-video.

Which one ot get? Well if your tv has a Composite input, why not get the best? My TV only has S-Video, but it is a hudge jump up from RCA cords, and I love it. I also have a dope S-vidoe selector, which can take up to 6 inputs, so I got all my gadgets hooked up thru that.

Here is the breakdown (again) from best to worst.

1) DVI
2) 15 Pin
3) Component
4) S-Video
5) Composite
6) RFU

DVI and 15 pin connections are hardly ever on regular TVs, so rule those out. I think the only true digital output is the DVI connection, the others are still analog.

Component sends the video in three different signals, giving a good, sharp picture with great color.

S-Video, the video is sent in two signals: Color and Brightness.

Composite sends the video all in one signal, so when decoded, the picture isn't as good.

RFU sends video AND sound through the same coaxial cable. So it is pretty crappy.


If your TV has component-in (HDTV), then get that. Otherwise, get the S-Video. Make sure your TV has the inputs FIRST!
