PC is great, if you have the money to buy the best of best hardware, then you can grind out some serious sound effects and graphics. And there are a lot more games for PC too...
Consoles can be really kick-ass if you have a really nice home entertainment setup. (But a nice setup could cost you a pretty penny.) And another nice thing is that you're not only limited to playing games since you can watch TV and DVD on your entertainment system..... whereas with a PC, you're kinda limited by how big your monitor can get and why would anyone wanna sit at their desk and watch DVDs when you can have a comfy seat on the couch and watch it on a HDTV... But in any case, if you really really really have the money, you'd just get both... cuz what would life be without games!! |

have you noticed what kind of games are released for consoles?
Fighting (Street Fighter, Marvel v. Capcom, DOA2) Action (Dino Crisis, Resident Evil) Sports (NFL2K1, NBA2K1) Console RPGS (Shenmue, Final Fantasy 9, Grandia) What PCS have: Action (Hitman Codename 47, No One Lives forever, Mechwarrior 4) Sports (Madden, NBA Live, NHL live, Sammy Sosa) RPGS (Diablo 2, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate 2) FPS (Quake 3, UT, CS, Elite Force) ok..they are starting to have these, but I'd like to see a PC quake 3 player vs. a DC quake 3 player and see who wins (I bet on the PC player...if you haven't played Q3A on the DC, try imagining moving your character with the buttons, your line of sight by the stick and shooting with the triggers). Real Time Strategy (Age of Empires 2, Starcraft, Homeworld, The Sims) try playing Starcraft 64 and see the difference Turn Based Strategy (X-Com, Heroes of Might and Magic) Adventure (Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Longest Journey) As you can see, while consoles are fun, the games are incredibly limited. Only once in a blue moon do innovative games appear FIRST on a console (this blue moon it's Shenmue), but the rest are simply rehashes of the same thing. As for the PC, innovative games appear almost weekly. Try to find equivalents to Hitman, Giants, Black and White, Sacrifice, and many others and you'll see the best gaming platform is the PC. However, it's all about the games. There shouldn't be a competition, but I just hope everyone doesn't bolt away from the PCs to consoles. |

I have to admit I like Consoles better...
1) EASY... Just pop the game in and play, no drivers, conflicts, ect. 2) Cheaper... Top of the line for under $300 (or less, DC for 150), where as computer top of the line is like 2000 or somthing. 3) Controller... SO much better than using a keyboard (beside FPS) 4) TV's and surround sound... Don't have to use your little monitor and speakers! 5) Mulitplayer... Friends come over and play with you, really hard to do that with a PC. The only department that I think that PC's have an edge on consoles is FPS's, because of the mouse control. |

Consoles unfortunately are lacking hugely in the multiplayer market. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I'm hooked on Counter-Strike now. I've never encountered a console game with that much replay value, and it's all due to the multiplayer/team aspect of the game.
It'd be great if consoles didn't need a proprietary multiplayer platform (ie, just use your plain ol' ISP) and could join the huge number of gamers already on the net with their PCs. But it's just not there yet.

Try playing strategy games with your controller...also you can always get a sidewinder gamepad for other games. Also you can get joysticks, rudder pedals, and steering wheels easier for PCs than you could for consoles. Quote:
I don't know what kind of monitor or speakers you have, but my monitor and speakers are better than tvs (thanks to my Live Platinum 5.1 =) ). Besides, playing multiplayer on your own screen is better than staring at a small corner of the screen for a console multiplayer. |

Guess I don't really like strategy games... Haven't changed since C&C... But, with an anolog controler, I doubt it would be much different, maybe alittle worse. But it all comes back to EASY. Sports games, and just about every thing else on a console, was DESIGNED for that perticular controller... easy. Quote:
Heh, unless you have a 32 inch monitor, and well, nothing on a PC can compare to my sound system... or any system you could hook up for less than a top of the line computer... plus you get to use it for your movies, and television viewing pleasure, a better investment in my book. As for muiltplayer, there are more and more online games coming out for the Dreamcast every day (if thats your type of mulitplayer). And, unless your friends want to lug over there entire computer set up, you can't beat having a good four player football game, basketball game, race, fight, or whatever, with a bunch of buds, a few beers, and a console. |
