Thumbs down

I just spoke to sony because I rented gameday 2001 and A screen comes up telling me that this console is modified (no SH**) and that I have to call a sony consumer number.
So I call and i get this nitwit telling me that because my playstation is modified i can't play the game on my psx (note: ORIGINAL GAME FROM BLOCKBUSTER) because of the mod.
they basically said I was out 5 bucks. So if you have a modded playstation watch what you buy. The sony dork told me that 989 sports and other sony owned companys. If I would have bought gameday 2001 i would be extremely pissed.
So just a warning to all peice out.

Boy, you just found out now? This new protection has been out for at least half year now. Also, I do not know why you called for, you care setting yourself up to be sued by Sony. Ever since the new millenium law, selling/buying or even having a mod-chip/game-enhancer is illegal and yes, sony can press charges.

I mod my PS and nothing has happened ever since. It can play Japanese(authentic or copied)/U.S.(authentic or copied).

That is the first time I heard a screen saying the console is mod. Weird.

It's about time Sony finds a way around this "mod" fad. I know that it was one of the things that has kept the Playstation around for so long in a market of 64-bit systems, but they finally wised up and took an active stance against revenue loss. When companies such as Sony take a loss at selling hardware to make up for it by selling millions of software titles, they are entitled to go through any means neccessary to get what is rightfully theirs.

The only way around this so-called "mod" fad is with mod chips *only*. If you have a 500X PSX model and older, and have connected it with a game-enhancer instead, then you can play any game out there even with the copy protection. Also, there is a way around the copy protection of having it detecting your mod chip and that is by implementing a switch. When you boot up the CD, just turn off the mod chip, and then after it bypasses the copy protection, turn it back on and it is utilizing the mod chip once again.

The switch is easily done, but nothing beats a simple game-enhancer. No soldering, just plug it in and it works flawlessly. Nothing can beat that!

You can't be sued for modding your own playstation. you can whatever you like to your playstation because it's yours. but you can get in trouble for making illeagle copies of games.
what is this millenium law you are talking about?

Unhappy

I was just wondering about how to bypass it because I do use it for the right purpose which is to back up my playstation games. I just think its messed up that sony whould do that and not warn consumers that the game won't work on your playstation after you just paid $40 dollars for a game you can't return or exchange because of california law. I think sony is trying to solve something while messing themselves up. Once again Sony has shot himself in the foot as it did with not providing the right amount of playstation 2.

Actually Sony isn't losing any money selling Playstation 1 hardware anymore. Now if you want to talk about Sony taking a BIG loss on each Playstation2 console they sell thats another matter.

When the Playstation first came out Sony took a loss on each Playstation 1 console they sold. But that hasn't been true for quite some time. Sony has consolidated and simpified (read they took somethings out} of the original Playstation design at least a couple of times. So its cheaper for Sony to make Playstations now compared to when the PS1 first came out. Also Sony has made and sold so many Playstations and ramped up production on the PS1 over the years. So the cost of making and selling each PS1 has dropped big time with the result of the PS1 long ago becoming firmly entrenched as part of mainstream culture {you don't have a playstation?!? Dayum! }. You can say early adopters of a console who buy its software are helping pave the way for later buyers to get the system cheaper. In addition Sony does have a licensing fee that game producers for its systems must pay.
