Anything rated "E" - maybe some of the old-school arcade games like Pac-Man or Centipede.

My 9 year old really likes the games that are about the popular movies (Shrek, Cars, etc.)

Katamary Damacy and it's sequel "We love katamari"

Lots of fun, no buttons to press. No violence.

Grand Theft Auto is another good choice if you want them to learn how to pick up a hooker.

Second vote for the Katamari games -- they are quite fun indeed (just make sure to keep the sound low, or you'll start hearing your kids singing some of the tunes (thanks to this, I've got the theme for the first game in my head now).
