Metal Gear Solid 4: 9.5 rating? Really??

So I just got done playing it through and I have to say I'm disappointed in how high the scores were.

It seems like reviewers are the worst fanboys out there at times.

I'd like to say that all 300 endings of this game bored me so badly that I fell asleep twice trying to watch it, on two separate occasions.

The voice acting is forced at times and overly corny. The Meryl Akiba thing was just retarded.

I skipped MGS3 because I found it too tedious. Missing that piece of the story, combined with forgetting what most of MGS2 was about made it difficult to keep up with their story. (They did a terrible job keeping new to the series up to speed.)

Someone explain to me why you have an arms dealer which allows you to buy a fantastic variety of weapons, but the point of the game is to not use any weapons and rely on stealth. The feature seemed counter productive to the objective to the game.

The codec device is almost worthless unless you need a hint from Otacon. Occasionally, you'll have "the mysterious helper" dropping you a hint or warning.

The graphics were fantastic, music is above average and the boss fights have interesting new twists to them to keep you guessing the solution.

I'm playing on the extreme hard difficulty and the sensitivity on getting spotted is so high, it makes the game almost a turnoff to play at this level.

Oh yeah, and Otacon is such a puss that I almost threw the controller at the screen to get him to shut up.

Clearly a japanese designed story/game. Maybe that annoys me the most because the sense of character development and purpose is totally off. (Japanese schoolgirl character is captain of the USS Missouri? Please.) For those that know me, I can't stand RPGs for this same reason: they don't write the stories for americans. Instead you get these hokey half-assed anime designs that just plain don't appeal to me.

They tried to circle back and put more underlying story behind MGS1 so significant that it changed what was really happening in that game. I'm all for that, but there are a few plot holes that didn't make any sense to me, so I'm going to go back through and play again to see if it still fails the test.

This franchise has fallen so far away from what made MGS 1 so awesome.

It's a fun game to play, probably worth spending $50 on, but it's no friggin 9.5 out of 10. I'm going to bed. I hate you Hideo, but I think I have more hate for the reviewers that will eat anything you throw at them and call it gourmet.

I find that AAA titles usually always get really good reviews, in the 90%+/9.0+ range. Then again, the reviewers gotta pay the bills somehow, right?

Man that sucks. I was looking forward to playing this game. I guess I'll just play GTA4 instead.

I wouldn't say "don't play this game." But I am saying that if you think like me, you probably won't see the appeal.

For example, I thought John Woo ruined Mission Impossible 2. I thought all the loud gasping really tanked FFXIII, despite it being a pretty damn good game.

There's something about Chinese/Japanese directing that just seems cliche and fake to me. There are certain elements that will bring me out of the fantasy of getting lost in a movie or game. (Willhelm (When will Hollywood quit using the Willhelm scream?)scream, anyone?) MGS 4 is no exception. Sorry Arki.

I don't plan on playing because I don't want to watch 40 minute cut scenes. I gave up on the series when I played MGS2 (I think) and after the first 2 hours I had only actually played for about 25 minutes. The rest was cut scenes.
