Counter Strike server Question

I don't know anything about Counter Strike, but my brother wanted me to ask this question here.

When I go into the "Play CS" menu to connect to servers, I choose a server and get the following message:

"You cannot connect to a server operating under a different protocol version."

I already filtered out the servers so they show the "Counter Strike" servers. And then I choose a Windows server and when I hit play it gives me that message. What should I do?
