Dsl or Cable modem for games??

First question:
Which is better for gaming?
DSL or CABLE? Heard dsl is more consistent, less packet loss, more consistent frames per second for gaming. Is this true?

Second question:
Currently I'm using Verizon DSL for 50 bucks a month, and the down time and packet loss is more than I expected. Any alternative $50 or less solutions?

Well suposedly DSL is better since its a consistent speed. But the thing is you'll be slow if your not under a mile or so away from your co. For me I'm on cable, roadrunner to be exact, and I have no complaints at all. Extremely fast and never slow since most likely nobody else in my area has it or uses it err abuses it like some people .

i had cable 3 years ago, then moved to an area that only had DSL available, then moved back to a cable area, so i've had both @home (now AT&T for some area) and SBC DSL before. I think cable is usually a lot faster, and less troublesome. DSL, at least at the time i had it, was down a lot more often than cable.

price-wise, in my area, cable is now 45/month, with tax and stuff it's 51. DSL is 51, with tax, it's a bit more, i think.

one more thing is cable might be $10/month cheaper if you have your own cable modem (depends on your area).

also, cable doesn't force you into a one year contract, but DSL does.

not only did i NOT answer your question with my phat schpiel, now i have another question to add:
when Diablo II first came out, i was using @home cable. I remember i couldn't serve other @home users. Luckily, a friend had DSL and he served, then we could play. Anyone know why? and if this is still a problem?

Totally depends on who provides the service. Both are good for games, but if you have a lousy phone company, you'll have lousy dsl. If you have lousy cable, etc. check http://www.dslreports.com and see how folks rate your local service providers.

LPMiller has the best idea. Check out your local options, and find opinions locally on which is best.

The quality of your provider matters MUCH more than whether it's cable or DSL.

I've had both cable and DSL, and my experience is just the opposite of wsm227's. My DSL was rock stable, and always speedy.

My cable modem now goes down for a short period almost every day, and speeds vary drastically at times.

I'd go back to DSL in a heartbeat if I could get it where I live now..

I'll just back up LP. DSL where I have lived has always sucked. I've never had the service but people I know have. I am a fan of the cable modem. Plus, I worked for SBC DSL (Handles all the *Bell DSL services) and well, let's just say I know some stuff, hehe.

Hard to abuse when it is capped. I have the same thing.
