Linux now available for the X-Box?
After Microsoft has won several battles to stop folks from making mod chips for the X-Box, the "X-Box Linux Project" comes up with a new blow to the big bad box maker.
"X-Box Linux Mandrake 9 available. This is the first full Linux distribution for the X-Box, which is 100% compatible with Mandrake Linux 9. The 350 MB installation CD includes Gnome, KDE and OpenOffice.org and installs in 10 minutes." With this you can use it for office applications, the Internet, e-mail, Linux games or even as a Web, file or database server. But don't think you can run out and get the disk thinking everything will be peachy. You will also need a special mod chip that will disable the security features in the X-Box allowing for you to use other software. The X-Box Linux Project What kinda cheeses me off is just how important is it to mod out your x-box? Why go through all the trouble?

Not only will you be able to play x-box games... You will be able to play x-box games from other regions (UK, Japan, Asia, Australia...) And by the sound of ti, use your x-box like a computer doing office work and such on it. Not sure what the point of that is but I'm sure someone out there needs to do this with their x-box. |

It's like making your x-box into a 150 computer. that's why. all sorts of neat things open up.
Besides linux people love putting their things where they have never gone before look at what happened when they did it for the PS2 ![]() |
