Tomb Ho delayed

http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/headlines1226.html

Eidos Plc has confirmed Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness will not meet its high-profile November 15 commercial debut on the Sony Playstation II games console and PC CDROM. The London-based publisher has stated the sixth Tomb Raider video-game will be released in February 2003 allowing developers Core Design more time to complete the game.

Darn, there goes Xmas.

A lot of this issues was due to a big delay with testing. There was an article released last week about how Core was trying to get female testers to try the game and comment on it. They couldn't get anyone gals to play it! In fact they got lots of women responding back at how horrible Lara Croft was as a lead character.

Core should have known better to try that little stunt. How can they say this game could be marketed to women players when Lara Croft has those big freakin...um...mellons hanging out there?

I also contribute delays of any other gadgets and toys to the strike on the west coast and their ports. I'm still in the "haven't bought a new console" camp. I'm leaning more and more to PS2 just cuz of the games.

You know, I thought they did. So after reading the news I decided to actually step away from my video games just to see what was outside...for the love of PETE! My eyes nearly burned away because of some burning thing in the sky! i did some research on the net and apparently there is this think called the sun that our world revolves around and it's perfectly normal! Some people ever go out in it on a regular basis! How can anyone subject themselves to such pain?

Anyways, until I can figure out how to get past this "sun" thing, I don't think I can answer that question. I can only assume they do just because my wife looks like that...

A demo of this game was shown and received lukewarm reviews over at the UK game show 2 1/2+ months ago. It was obvious then the game wasn't close to being complete. Note even they said its obvious the game is not done and work remains to be done. For a game launching in less than 3 months it should have been in the stage of being polished and doing QA {quality assurance}. So rather than release a bugfest ala Tomb Ho: Chronicles, Eidos choose to delay AoD. A good move.

Look at last paragraph. Improved graphics but no real experience. This is a big concern for Tomb Ho fans.

Red face opps they did it again

http://breaking.examiner.ie/2003/01/21/story85184.html

Fans of cyber babe Lara Croft will have to wait at least another three months for the release of the latest Tomb Raider computer game, design group Eidos said today.

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, which was due out next month after missing the original November deadline, will not hit the shelves until April at the earliest.

Although significant progress had been made in the final stages of developing the game, more time was needed for further game play enhancement, he added.

The game was also expected to “benefit substantially” from the marketing of the new Lara Croft film, Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, due out in July.

-------------
So after the tepid response this game got, there was "significant progress" but now its time for "further game play enhancement". Yeah thats sound good.

This game is make or break time for this franchise. If its not a hit that revitalizes, then the series future is not bright. Cruising along on T&A only goes so far. MOTS with incremental increases in graphics quality with little freshness in gameplay and everything else won't cut it anymore. As we've seen in the past, better graphics does not make for a better game. People will go ahead and spend their money on other games.
