any have an afterburner kit for the GBA?
afterburner kit... it's a backlit kit for the gameboy advance. it costs around $35 and you gotta do some basic soldering...
so does anyone have it? i'm thinking about just buying a pre-installed one. |

I got it during the summer. It's awesome. After you install it you will never ever in a million billion years have to buy any of those rinky dink lights. It's very bright and you can actually see the backgrounds in Castlevania.
I had to go buy a soldering iron and an exacto knife and it took about 2-3 hours. Mostly cutting away the plastic from the front. You can install the dimmmer which I did, and I think it's best to leave that out for me at least. Oh and I recommend a dust free area. I didn't but it still looks great. Get a can of compressed air and blow out all the dust. It helps.

I don't know about the regular AA batteries but I think it's like 6 hours plus. Could be up to 10. The website says it knocks about an hour off. www.tritonlabs.com
I've been using rechargable battery packs. I should have read the label better but they are supposed to last 6 hours. I get about maybe 4-5 hours out of it on a full charge and the screen at it's brightest. Don't get the TV thing. Sucks. Wait for the Game Boy Player thing if you got a Gamecube. |

Everyone says it's worth it and there our even sites out there now that will sell you a GBA with the afterburner installed or install it for you in about a weeks time!
I've got two GBA's and thought I'd try it out on one of them but not sure if I trust myself with the soldering part...

ANyone had any experience with any of these distributors?
Also I notice the GBA cases with the afterburner soldered in only cost $12.95. IS that right? http://www.lik-sang.com/list.php?cat...542a3b9df75839 ~sim Last edited by kame : 12-05-2002 at 08:22 AM. |

Can't say that I have. Still trying to figure out whether I want to buy a GBA with the afterburner per-installed or just do it my self.

i ordered a pre-installed afterburner unit from goldenshop earlier this week... total (including shipping) came out to $136. i went with this place cuz they were the only ones that accepted credit cards. others wanted bank wire transfers or western union. did you know it costs $22 to wire money to hong kong through western union? so expensive.. anyhoo...
they shipped it out today. i'll let you know how it performs when i get it. ![]() |

I pre-ordered mine before it officially shipped out. The original maker/inventor/seller can be found at www.tritonlabs.com
It's absolutely wonderful. I installed it myself. I believe the kit by itself is 35 plus 7 shipping which is about 42. The GBA is about 70 bucks. You might want to save time by getting it preinstalled. |

ok, i got my pre-installed afterburner GBA three days after it shipped from hong kong...
it's quite impressive...and if the batter life is what they say, then this is definitely a MUST HAVE mod for your GBA. whether you install it yourself or have it preinstalled, it's simply stunning. i can play in the dark!!! |

I've been playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 in the dark. Once in a while for like a second it'll blank out on me. I dunno if it's the game or my soldering job is becoming undone.
