Post Blizzard bans over 100K accounts for Diablo II cheats

From www.battlenet.net website

Diablo II Accounts Closed
Tuesday, June 10, 2003
Numerous additional accounts were tied to the use of a hack or cheat program while playing Diablo II on Battle.net. In keeping with our aggressive stance against cheating, we have permanently closed over 112,000 of these accounts and documented the CD keys with which they were used. Please note that repeat offenders risk having their CD keys disabled, which would result in permanent removal from Battle.net for their copies of Diablo II.

We have also identified those accounts with which a "map-hack" program is being used. Map-hack programs give players who use them unfair advantages over other players. As with any third-party program, using them to affect play over Battle.net violates our End User License Agreement. Accounts that continue to be used with a map-hack program are subject to closure, and the CD keys with which those accounts are being used could be disabled.

We will continue to monitor Battle.net for cheating and take action as needed. To report additional instances of hacking or cheating, please contact us at hacks@blizzard.com. A false report filed by one player against another will not result in the actions described above.

As always, thank you for your continued support; with your help we have been able to keep Battle.net a fun and safe place to play Blizzard games.

I agree with Xsiled. The game is weak. Just click your mouse 30 million times to get the power up to win the game.

Never played it. Does it still have a sustainable online presense? Like Starcraft I imagine still have hundreds of people playing. MOH has a good online gamer base.

Maybe this is another topic but how is Planetside?

I find that hilarious, "The game is weak. Just click your mouse 30 million times to get the power up to win the game."

What do you do in any game? You click your mouse, you have to! In a strategy game, fps, mmorpg...second, you click to attain something, either an item, a kill, frag, or commanding a legion.

Same concept in every game + Db2 was fun. If you actually sat down and played it, you would get addicted! Or at least that was few years ago, but still...great franchise, great game, and its one that is a must if your a true gamer

+ If you played hardcore characters, or pvp, its a totally different game all together...

go ahead, I know you want to install it and play

it WAS addicting! The lure of finding a really elite item and showing it off to other traders was enough to get me and my friend to dream of selling items on ebay to turn our hobby into some productive time spent. of course, that never happened

I still think it is by far the best pvp engine on the net. Next generation MMORP's might have 3d virtua type fighting engines but until than D2 is the best and there is no monthly to play.

<leaves to reinstall game to save his account>

What did you consider a nice Multi player Dungeon game?

Im not trying to sell it on you X, but you probably played solo and didn't do pvp.
Several things that stand out with D2 was:
1)Graphics - Blizzard did a great job and its still not bad considering its 4 years old.
2)Online gaming - battle.net is free and besides lag times a great multi-player gaming environment. Characters are stored online and it took a little effort to cheat.
3)Treasures - weopons etc took a lot of time and luck to find. Eventually it was all hacked to pieces but for a while it fun to find stuff. I mean people actually made money off of selling stuff.
4)PvP - a lot of button mashing but more strategy than a lot of other games. Switching skills and weopons and changing attacks on the fly is far better than any turn based fighting.
5)Just enough variety that you could build up at least 2 different kinds of every character in the game.
6)Original story was pretty good. Not something to do over and over cuz its pretty linear, but worth running through with a few different characters.

I'm glad they didnt make another expansion cuz I wasted my fair share of time on it but I will get D3 if they chose to make it.

im not really sure about that, the cut scenes look great, but you could say the same with starcraft. and when it came to the actual game taking 4 years to produce didnt really add to its graphical style, i think it looks pretty crappy in most areas of the game

2)Online gaming - battle.net is free and besides lag times a great multi-player gaming environment. Characters are stored online and it took a little effort to cheat.
well i agree there i liked the fact that would could either play the whole game online or carry your single player in multi. ive never had complants with battle.net though d2 made starcraft laggy, though warcraft made it worse.

3)Treasures - weopons etc took a lot of time and luck to find. Eventually it was all hacked to pieces but for a while it fun to find stuff. I mean people actually made money off of selling stuff.
yeah but do you know anyone personally that had something worth anything? i knew atleast 10 people that played that game and none of the got anything that worth of any real worth

4)PvP - a lot of button mashing but more strategy than a lot of other games. Switching skills and weopons and changing attacks on the fly is far better than any turn based fighting.
i just couldnt get into the pvp, i had a few people randomly attack me and i killed them but other then that i didnt really like the controls when it came to speed, its not like playing a FPS and changing guns and blasting the crap out of someone.

5)Just enough variety that you could build up at least 2 different kinds of every character in the game.
agreed, but whats the point....

6)Original story was pretty good. Not something to do over and over cuz its pretty linear, but worth running through with a few different characters. bleh i was sick of the game after i finished it

I'm glad they didnt make another expansion cuz I wasted my fair share of time on it but I will get D3 if they chose to make it.
