Thumbs up FF origins

Wow. I saw the thread a few months ago when the news was posted they would release FF1 and FF2 for playstation.

It was $30 well spent. This was of those few times where they've outdone the original. Here's a list of all the changes I've seen, for better or worse: (FF1 only).
  • Updated graphics. It's now super nintendo quality. I think overall it's a positive change.
  • CGI videos. I've only seen one. I can't tell if it's a good change or bad yet, as it was confusing as hell.
  • New battle system 1: If you assigned a char to attack a creature that is killed before your turn, you attack another creature instead of hitting air.
  • New battle system 2: Magic has better animation with some cool affects. Magic that affects the monster party shows all damage at once, instead of one at a time.
  • Added animations on little things, like going to an inn or using a potion in the inventory menu. (personally I didn't like this change as it slows down routine game play.)
  • Music is a lot better.
  • You can buy multiple items easier, so buying 99 potions takes a couple presses on the c-pad. (You don't have to buy one at a time.)
  • MEMO File. This change is REALLY cool, but makes the game a lot easier. It's a RAM save, which you lose once the power goes off on your playstation. You can save one file, anywhere you want outside of battle, as often as you want. So if you die, you can restart closer to where your party fell. It's really handy in dungeons where you couldn't normally save and you come across pesky undead.
  • Renamed Beastiary. Imps became goblins. They no longer associate difficulty with color. Grey imps became Goblin Guards.
  • new puzzle game: In the old version, if you pressed A+B 55 times in the sailboat, you got to a puzzle scrambler. If you descrambled the numbers 1-15 by moving blocks one at a time, the game gave you a whopping 100 gil. In the new version, the game times you. Depending on whether you can beat the top 3 scores, it'll give you $10,000; $5,000; or just a couple potions. The prizes can be re-won by beating your old scores and eliminates a the really boring part of gil collecting for elf items early in the game.
  • Increased stach size. You can now carry weapons and armor in your inventory that you aren't using so you don't have to sell one to pick up another.
  • Spell names have changed. Lit2 became Bolt2.
  • You can have 6 letter character names instead of 4.

If anyone's interested, I'll post more as I find them. I think it was a good buy for $30.

man... makes me wish i had a playstation...

the original final fantasy is, for nostalgic reasons if nothing else, one of my top 3 favorite video games of all time.

I recently threw out my old nintento and its cartridges =\. I played Final fantasy non stop years ago. I was obsessed in trying to get to level 99.

Threw it out? You could've gotten some big bucks for some of them games. I know you can't find the original FF anywhere. Go to gamestop or any used game store and look at the price of the classics...(mario/duckhunt excluded.)
