Command & Conquer -- Red Alert 2
I'm trying to run this on a Win2k Pro box.
It installs just fine. However, I cannot get it to connect to the Internet. I searched the westwood online support site with no luck. Anyone in my boat?

I heard it was down a while ago, but apparently is now back up.
Can you run it in single player mode?

Yeah, all other aspects of the game work just fine.
I just will not let me connect to the Internet to download the two patches. I also installed them separately and I still couldn't get online. Win2k isn't officially supported, but I have friends have have gotten it to work just fine. |

sounds like you may have to open a port and tell RA what port to use to connect.

Not sure how to tell RA what port to use? Do you know how?

Been a very, very long time. I KNOW you can do it, because I played RA2 in Win2000 a few years back. |

Are you using Yuri's Revenge or straight RA2?
(I have win 2k on my laptop and I was able to play a game online last night using Yuri's. I got my butt kicked though cause I'm using that stupid nipple for a mouse.) |

I'm trying to use RA2.
What's Yuri's like? Is it similar to RA2? Are you using RA2 on Win2K? |

I have Yuri's and I like it. It has some different weapons, but the problem I had was when i would load it up, it would take like 10 minutes to load, then the game would be a bit skippy. I don't know what the problem was with it. I gave up and now I play either RA2 to Generals.

If Yuri's is taking 10 mins to load, it's because you have 2 cdrom drives and one is empty. Put your Yuri's play disc in your primary drive and any other CD (even the RA2 play disc) in the other one. It'll load a lot faster.
I didn't like Yuri's at first cause I think the soviets are a lot weaker. However, Yuri's side is tons of fun and the Allies are much more powerful. New units and new weapons = new tactics. That's always a plus. |

I think I figured it out. Right click on the program shortcut and go to properties. Then click on the compatibility tab and run it in Win98 compatibility mode. (EA recommends Win95 mode.)
That's what I did to get Yuri's to work on WinXP. For more technical support, you can find it here. |
