I don't see any French cavalry in that picture. If there was any, I'm sure it would be the English in flight.

I never did ask you Canta, whats your favorite faction in the game? I usually use the English or the HRE.

Byzantines. Byzantine history is my area of concentration as an undergrad and is what my thesis will be on when I do grad school.

There is nothing better than watching a group of Kataphraktoi in wedge formation crashing through some weak infantry in total war. Although they arent historically accurate in the game. In the game the Kataphrakts fight with lances but in reality they used maces.

I take Serbia and Sicily, but thats it in the west because those can be easily defended with not so many troops. Then I try to take out the Turks. I ally with the Fatamids and then start attacking the Turks. Syria and Antioch are the key. Once you get those you can easily defend all of the east for cheaply.

Do you wait to near the end to take the Papal States? Its seriously a huge manpower drain having to putdown the various rebellions.

I usually don't play total conquest. I usually go for Glorious Achievements. I rarely try to conquer western Europe. I tend to stick to the eastern mediterranian.

How about Scipio Africanus? Then again that would be a roman. I rather storm the gates of Rome itself

What game are you talking about? As a history nerd, I'm intrigued.

My computer is so ancient that I haven't played a decent game on it in years, but I'm hoping to get a fancy new Dell after I move into my new house. (Ya hear that Apex? I need a good deal!)

The game picture is from Medieval Total War. Its a turn based strategy game on the top level while the individual battles are done in real time.

Rome: Total War will be fricken amazing. And it will require a hefty ass computer from teh videos I've seen. It coems out September 14th.

But Medieval: Total War is great too, and you can get it now. It requires and OK computer, like 1ghz cpu and a ge-force 2 or 3 or better.

And yeah, Scipio Africanus was the man. Its very easy to argue he was the greatest general in the history of the world. And it has been.

And this Medieval: Total War, does it have online game play? What are the odds that Canta (as France) could play online against LK (as Germany/HRE), complete with an Apex thread devoted to gambling on the outcome?

Is this game anything like Europa Universalis, which is cool because it's low-tech enough to play on my computer?

Its less complicated than Europa Universalis, because it focuses slightly less on empire management and more on the real time 3d battles.

It definitly takes a better pc than EU does, but the good thing is you can simulate all the battles rather than fight them personally if you cant handle the 3d battles.

There is an online component, but its only for battles. You cant play the strategic portion online.
