Final Fantasy XI
Anyone play this? I'm really bored and need a new game to kill some days before summer school starts but I'm a little hesistant with the 50 dollar price tag and monthly fees.

If you plan to ONLY play the game between now and summer school i'd highly advise you not get any MMORPG game. It's not worth the 50 bucks + monthly fees if you won't play it again. Otherwise, it's a cool game. I hear City of Heros is great too.

Well, it's definitely not a short term game. If you want something to hold you over, then get something like Xenogears or FFX-2...
I am currently playing FFXI a little. What's good about it is that I haven't bought another game for a long time because of it. |

$50....I thought it was $100? The lowest I have seen it for is $70, but I havent really searched.

My experience with the game.
Good: It can be fun. Good scenery. People are nicer than in other games. Lots of mini game within the game. Bad: You have to team up to get exp. If your team sucks, so do you. Sometimes it takes an hour or more to find/build a party. Turn based fighting systems suck IMO. You generally fight one monster at a time. This monster is referred to as a "mob." So it's a group of 4 -7 people or a double party with 14 players continually fighting single monsters. You can fight a couple at a time but its never like a full pitched battle with 7 monsters vs. 7 characters. If you do see it, it's either easy (low xp) or your all dead. Mini games include fishing and crafting, etc. Now how fun does video game fishing sound? Exactly. You can also sit there and add raw materials together to try to make nice stuff. This is very time consuming and boring as hell. Lineage 2 looks like it may be another good option to look at but niether feature fast paced fighting like D2. -jel

Even with my uber internet connection at home, the updates are going to take over 40 minutes. I guess that isnt so bad considering most of it is content updates.
