Amazingly good looking on anything other than low quality and higher than 640x480. Amazingly scary, if you have surround sound on your pc, you will be crapping your pants. I'll prolly post some screenies later on.

Ooof! An absolute BEAST in terms of hardware needs....

I loadad it up on a 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 128MB nVidia Quadro card and got a whopping 7.7fps in the timedemo. I know some tweaking is in order here, but that suprised me.

Quadro arent exactly made to run games though. Granted they handle OpenGL pretty well, but still, they are for pushing polygons and not rendering partical effects or stenciling shadows in real time.

800x600 @ Medium detail looks / runs fine on my laptop.

Overall I'm liking this one, even though it's VERY repetitive (shoot bad guys, get the PDA's, shoot more bad guys). Fairly challenging too, which is what I like to see in a game.

Pentium-M 1.4GHz / 1GB PC2700 memory / 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 / Catalyst 4.7 modded drivers.

Sometime closer to Christmas I hope to upgrade to at least a 1.8GHz Dothan -- that should really improve performance).

Then again, maybe I'll just build a high-end HTPC and play DOOM 3 on my 32" TV

P4 2.53
gig-O-ram
Radeon 9700 Pro (overclocked)

Runs pretty well on 1024 by 768 with high settings.

Man this game is creeping me out! I had to stop playing. I was jumping out of my chair!

A64 3000+, 1GB Corsair XMS My 9700Pro is managing 1280 x 1024 with medium settings as smooth as silk...It can handle a 97MHz overclock on the GPU and 66 MHz on the memory since I'm watercooling--so if I need to squeeze a little more out of it, I can. So far, so good!

Yeah, there's obviously something wrong with this setup... I was able to get over 44FPS at 640x480 on my laptop (Latitude D800, 1.7GHz Centrino, 64MB GeForce 4200GO). I'll have to play with the settings on that desktop.

However, we fired it up in our conference room yesterday - big projector, surround speakers, 3.06GHz P4 & 256MB Quadro FX3000... got 25FPS at 1280x1024. Looks amazing on a projector, but made me queasy - screen was TOO big.

is there a big performance gain from having 1GB of memory as opposed to just 512mb?

does it really cut the loading time?

Yes, you need a gig of ram or else you will have stuttering when you enter a new area.

No Co-op gaming = not buying PC version.
I can't understand why NO developer wants to do this for the PC. Maybe financial incentive...but still...I think its pretty stupid. They know its a desireable feature, so why not??

No co-op gaming? What do you mean? I was under the impression that there was some co-op gaming on this...

NOPE! No co-op in the PC version. Multiplayer is mostly deathmatch type with a maximum of 4 (yes, 4!) players.

Wow, I didn't know that! Have you played multiplayer? How's it affect your speed? I'm guessing that they can't get decent performance with more than 4....

On a side note, who else has trouble with graphics outside? On three different machines, when I make the short walk on the Mars surface, the graphics are all messed up - most of the screen is black, and you can only see bits & pieces of what's around you. Once back inside everything is back to normal. All different machine configs - all P4, all 1GB or more, one with a GeForce 4200GO (64MB), one with ATI 9500 Pro (128MB), and one with a Quadro FX 3000 (256MB).

I'm playing on my AMD 2500+, 512MB RAM, ATI 9500 Pro... everything looks great!

Here's my advice:
- If you haven't already, OVERCLOCK IT!! Instructions here
- Get the new ATI Catalyst 4.7 Drivers here ... I played with the original drivers that came with my card a year and a half ago, and almost threw the game out, then I remembered to update the drivers and they make a WORLD of difference

Hopefully these things will work on your 9500 Pro. Outdoors look great.

-----------------------------------

I have a question. I have an ATI 9600 Turbo 128MB in my laptop. I thought it was DirectX 9 compatible, but when Doom installed and tried to run Direct X 9b, there was an error. There was also an error installing Catalyst 4.7 drivers (maybe since DX9b wasn't installed?). Any idea? I payed $150 extra for this video card and it SUCKS without the drivers

After playing on my old athlon...I've come to the conclusion that this game just simply does not run on anything below 1.5ghz. I think 1.5ghz is far too generous of a "minimum" requirement. I guess i'll be stashing this game away for some time.

hmm so i was playin the game a bunch. My initial impression was... WOW amazzzing graphics. But the gameplay is kinda dull. Go get key, open door, kill anything that moves, repeat.

the one thing that i reallllly dislike is i cannot see anything!!! it is SOO DARK! i am always using my flashlight but then if a bad guy is there i either have to just shoot where i think it is, or run to a lit spot and wait there. I read a review on gamespot and they said something like "so it is in the future but yet you have no nightvision or anyway to mount a flashlight to your weapon..." which is how i feel. I know it makes it scarier having guys jump out of the dark.... but it happens so often i am used to it.

The graphics are amazing, but the darkness is killing me. Maybe it is just my radeon 9700 pro, i will see how it runs on a coworkers computer here with nvidia cards.

i have the gamma all the way up and turning it up on my monitor doesn't help. I think it may have something to do with my vid card, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. Most games are dark but you can just turn up the gamma some. Anyone else with a radeon card think it is dark?

I will post a screenshot when i get home. Such a pain to keep switching between the flashlight and guns.

It's OK on my 9500 Pro. I have the gamma up *almost* all the way & I can see everything except the deep shadows. Do you have the very latest drivers installed?

I *think* I know where you are - if I'm thinking of the right place, you need to backtrack to the recption area, and a couple of beasties will bust down a door for you & try to kill you. Just go thru that door.
