Madden 2005

Anybody have Madden 2005? I was wondering if it was worth going to EB to pick it up

If you've got a PS2, the load times are RIDICULOUSLY slow. I haven't tried the XBox version.

Of course, if you've got a group of friends who play video games, there is perhaps no greater game on the face of the earth.

I have it for the xbox.

Great game. I dunno about the load times though (because its super quick on my "super" xbox... )

As for gameplay, they really beefed up the defensive controlling in 2005.

Madden '05 is a really awesome game. All the defensive control additions make a huge difference, and the AI acts so much smarter too. The load times on the PS2 are kind of large, but if you get the non-collectors edition you can just throw it on your hard drive using HDLoader or freehdloader (that loads off your memory card).....just enable Mode 3. Running a game like Madden or NCAA off the harddrive makes a HUGE difference.

It took forever to install on my computer. 40+ minutes is ridiculous.

I'm just wondering one thing... why do people keep buying the new version of this game each and every year? This has to be EA Sports greatest cash cow.... and probably makes for a sizeable chunk of their yearly profits...

I remember buying Madden games in the early/mid nineties (around 93 I think), but after buying 3 consecutive years and noting that I never played the earlier year games ever again.... I came to the conclusion of "what da hell am I doing"? Shelling out major dolo for roughly the same game with an updated roster every year.

Yeah... over time it has grown and evolved, but honestly, does it really change THAT much to justify buying every year? Or are we just sheep who are slaves to John Madden's ranting.... "BOOM! That's gotta hurt... Now that's what we call smash mouth football..."

They have been greatly improving the games the past couple of years. Madden 2004 was definately a breakthrough and 2005 adds ontop of that with great control over the defense.

But is it really great enough control to justify spending that $50 every year?

I guess so... cause enough people are buying it like lemmings jumping over a cliff...

You could say the same about all the modifications you'e done to your truck. To each their own I guess.

Dude... why you gotta go there?

I don't buy a TRUCK every single year. So modding my truck is not the same as buying a new game every year.... "updates" to the main game are not an option here.

So why you tryin' to go there? I just asked a valid question... and your response doesn't have anything to do with it.

I used to buy madden and ncaa every year but I slowed down. First I noticed I don't enjoy madden as much as ncaa so I'd rather just play ncaa. Second, I'm waiting for all the teams to switch to their new conferances before I buy another NCAA game. But you can bet I'm buying next year's.

You can trade your games in like a month or two before the new one comes out (who plays football games in the beginning of summer anyway, you should be playing baseball) and at least get $15 back towards the new one.

I think it's a valid comparison. Video gaming is a hobby. You don't buy new mods every year but I guarantee you that you spent a hell of a lot more than what a video game costs . I don't think $50 a year is a big deal if you happen to play the game at least 50 days....which I will during the year, then that's $1 a day for that entertainment. I was just trying to explain that when it comes to hobbies people don't mind spending so much money.

I have a hard time buying NCAA games because they use the previous year's Madden code. It's cool if you want to play as your own college but apart I don't think it has too many selling points. The game play seems a lot slower than Madden as well.

I guess... but honestly, video games are in an entirely different class than automobiles. My automobile is not a true hobby... I just have to do everything one at a time because I can't afford to do it all at once. Once it is done, it will be done... until it breaks down and I have to buy a new one.

The point wasn't whether or not $50 was a big deal either. The point was that they have come out with a new version every single year for like 10 years and that there are some folks that have every one of them. Do you go back and play "last years" model? What about the one from 8 years ago? Feeling nostalgic?

I like UT... and even they haven't come out with a new one every single year (although they did this past year with UT 2003 and then bringin' out 2004...)

I'm not even questioning whether you enjoy playing Madden (which I'd assume that you do...) I'm just suspect whether or not they add enough to that game to make it justifiable to buy the new one every year... or is it the "peer pressure" just to keep up with everybody else since hardly nobody is gonna play the previous versions that much anymore. (i.e. "captive audience for guaranteed profit")

Honestly, I still think it is a brilliant strategy on the part of EA sports. And they have capitalized on it nicely.

I thought ESPN was alot better than Madden this year. Madden has so many little things that piss me off, where ESPN does most everything great this year. Oh yeah, it's only 20 bucks too!

You thought right MAC!!

Madden 2005 is a disappointment this year. The game is supposed to of been upgraded defense (AI) but that is a joke. I can score 3 times in a 1min drill.
The true leader is ESPN 2005, especially when you can get the game for 19.99
THe AI is more accurate, the second half truely shows teams adapting. There is even a pretty cool half time show, showing your games highlights. the play style is alot more accurate than Madden. I have been playing & loveing Madden for years, this is the first time I have chosen another game as the best. I have both. The graphics, realism, & price is best with ESPN 2005, plus is has XBOX live. Madden's big thing this year was AI defense & XBOX Live. Both are a joke. Save your money, buy ESPN for 19.99
