It's 75% smaller. Same width it looks like. About 25% shorter it seems. And 50% thinner. It's a top loader with a built in ethernet port.

since it's a flip top I would hope that it would easily be swap diskable like the original playstation or a PS2 with a flip top mod

That is a really thin PS2. I'm pretty sure it can be chipped. It makes me want to trade in mine for this thinner one.

From what I read, Sony's reasoning is that the "hard core" players who need the hard drive already have one. This thing is aimed at those who don't have one yet.

I think it's quite neat, though I really don't need one since I have two of them...don't ask. But yes, this will extend its life for one more year. In fact, this pushes sony over the top for this final year since the cube and xbox now look like 3 year old fossils.
