Talking It was many many eons ago...

when I was a little lad.. I remember staying up alll night,
playing Lode Runner on the Apple 2G. It was so addictive cuz I wonder what was at the end, I finish passed out when I got to level 47...one night... =P

then there were MUDs.. I was on one called DragonFire, that was my all time fav..

Nowadays, it's The Sims (now that I have my Livin' Large expansion pack) and Diablo II (finishing Nightmare mode..)

With all these games around, how can ANYONE get any sleep? 8)

Luckily, after a year and a half, I finally managed to kick the "habit"...but I still remember waking up 2 hours before school to try to get a headstart on everyone else or snag that eq that everyone was looking for at the time.
Ah, how I miss those lifeless time. I used to play hours of Gemstone III just to level up. Woke up 3 in the morning so the (internet) traffic was smooth and less lags. "prepare 702, cast at rat, skin rat, search rat" My old routine.

freecell! nasty nasty game! basically, for the last 5 years, i spent $15K per year to go to school (not classes mind you, just to be in the institution known as an university) and play freecell. worked on a record of winning 367 games in a row (no...no... no i'm not proud of myself...wait! yes i am!)

Talking Doom Anyone?

I'm surprised no-one mentioned id's little masterpiece Doom 1&2. Not that I am dissin' anyone. Geez, but I wasted a lot of hours on that game, loved it loved it, got me completely and utterly hooked on pc games. I remember staying up late and long hours, and would arrange to babysit for my sis&bro in-laws just so's I could play it on their computers. Man, that was back in the day, as they say.

Well, like a few others I am hopelessly addicted to

COUNTER STRIKE!!

but....I really remember waisting much time with a sweet rpg called FANTASY STAR for the original Sega Genesis.

That game is responsible for my gaming away a good part of Junior Highschool!

Bah

DAMN CS! That game is responsible for my poor grades, me joining the Army and a host of other things! CS, Quake1:TF and Dues Ex. DE is really good but nothing, NOTHING holds up to Counter-Strike. I wish they put a Delta Force model in there...they are better than Seal team 6 cause they're ARMY and Army is always beats NAVY!

Man, I have many, now it's Diablo 2, but the ultimate was X-Com UFO Defenders. Sad to say, but I fell asleep with controller in my hands on a few different occasions. That is BAD. My girlfriend at the time was pissed, my friends would come over, look at the screen and leave. Oh the glory!

I gotta throw in a starcraft vote... I have been playing that for 3 years, and it is still addictive as all hell.

And regarding dope wars, That now occupys most of my class time. "where to dude?"

Well for me the most addictive games of all time are:

Civ2
Colonization
Dune 2

not particularly in that order

currently, for me nothing beats counter strike. tho i did finish HW: Catclysm in 2 days but not much interest for me in multiplayer.
