This is getting ridiculous.
http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=22779 [quote]The innovative seven-year arrangement will dramatically limit the number of baseball video game manufacturers and ensure aggressive marketing and promotion of baseball video games, while promoting competition in the marketplace to drive innovation in baseball product development. Beginning in 2006, Take2 will have exclusive rights among third-party publishers to develop and market simulation, arcade and manager-style baseball video games.../[quote] ![]() Monopoly != innovation |

Take Two... what game does that company put out? And yes, monopoly is horrible. Competition is what makes products better and keeps them affordable.

I was gonna say.. Baseball is slow and unpopular... Just like the real game. I really only enjoy football and some basketball. But the problem with baskebtall is that the game isn't smart enough to be functional and fun. Unless you run a set play down, it doesn't really work. Football however, every guy knows what to do for 4 seconds and then you pick a new play. That type of program, can be written.

take-2 is the espn games people. after they got dissed on the whole nfl thing, they decided to snag the baseball market. and yes, i play baseball games.
next, it's going to be exclusive rights to nba, and then...if the nhl ever comes back, that too. then it'll be the PGA and then the USTA, blah blah blah blah..... who knows...maybe take2 & EASports will swap nfl & mlb licenses, and share. of course it screws everyone else over. ![]() |

Actually, not after this year. EA is getting the ESPN license in 2006. I think they won't share. If I were a software company I'd take the NFL over MLB any day, for exactly the reasons you guys said. Madden (and the NFL games) are the crown jewel of the sports games market. Baseball games aren't that popular, especially when High Heat is gone, WSB is crap, and MVP baseball is still lacking far behind the quality of Madden (not to mention its predecessor, Triple Play, was horrible). |

What worries me about this development are people who own a Gamecube. If we all remember, EA Sports is the only company currently making sports games for the Gamecube. Does this mean we no longer get baseball? I doubt Take Two would ignore a monopoly on that market but who knows.... I will miss MVP Baseball....

If Nintendo is smart it will work to get a baseball title (namely TakeTwo's)... and if TakeTwo is smart it will put one out, because as you said they'd have a monopoly on that platform as well. I think it is highly probable.
