xbox 360: what do you predict the demand to be?

i just won a xbox 360 with madden 2006 and i plan on selling it on ebay to fund my bike purchases. the question is, should i do so now when they are fetching $500ish for shipment on the release or do you think M$ will not make enough for the demand and i'll be able to get more for it than that after the stores run out?

if i could get $700 for it today i'd sell it asap.

Do you have the $300 or $400 model? Also, do you actually get it before they are released? I think the highest you're going to find is BEFORE they are in the stores, or about a week before Christmas, assuming they're hot.

And when do you get it? I think if you get it a week before it releases, and you can setup the auction so you could ship it that day, you'd get the most money out of it. Remember, though, that retail value of that is about $450 ($400 + $50 for the game), so just getting $500 isn't all that great.

Looks like it's released on the 22nd to everyone. Hmm... that doesn't really give you time to sell it "before it comes out". Not sure what to do. You could always just give it to me I suppose, then at least you'd know you did a good deed....

I'd wait 'til before Xmas to sell it on eBay; you'll probably get a grand easy. Lots of suckers out there.

Sell it to me for face value

I think the demand really depends on if the shortage is actually true. Some think it is hype to get more people to preorder/create a buzz. I think people won't have a hard time finding it the day of launch at places like bestbuy, walmart, target, etc. However, after the first shipment comes in, who knows when the stores will get more.

I'm figuring I will be hitting up a bunch of stores the morning of to buy atleast one premium(maybe 3 if people I know can't find one). My thinking is If I don't get one then, it could be awhile or a pain in the butt to find one later with calling stores every day to find out when they are getting more in.

I'm in the same boat. I will be there first thing on the 22nd to pick one up and may pick another one or two to see what happens with the demand.

I would go ahead and sell it now if you can get $500 for it on ebay. Take the guaranteed $100 versus waiting and possibly only getting the retail for it if the market is flooded by MS.

Analysts predict shortages

Quote:
First, we’ve got readers writing to tell us that store managers at Electronics Boutiques are calling them to bump them off of the first allocation of Xbox 360 pre-orders.

Writes one reader:
This is something you might want to follow up on, but I just received a phone call from the EBGames store manager (Gainesville, FL) saying that the launch stock they were allocated is a LOT less than what they are now getting. Although I reserved with them over 6 months ago - even before there was an official MSRP - I was told that I didn’t make the list and would be on the second shipment.

Have you pre-ordered an Xbox 360? Call the merchant you pre-ordered from and let us know if you’ll be getting your Xbox 360 on time.

Second, analysts project low availability. Research analyst Mike Wallace predicted that only 1.5 million Xbox 360s will ship this calendar year, with less than a third of those (400,000) available in the United States on launch day, according to 1Up.com.

I'm telling you man...wait 'til a week before Xmas.
$1 grand easy (if not more).

And I repeat once more...

Wait until about 7-10 days before xmas, then post a 5 day auction. You'll make a killing.

Other reports are coming in that some bestbuys are going to get 300 units, 200 premium and 100 core the day of launch. So all the game stores coudl sell out there 40 if they get that many since they have been taking preorders for 6months. However, all the big retail stores(walmart, bb,cc,target, compusa) all could be getting more then 50 per store in.

I personally don't think I will have any troubles getting a premium unit the day of launch. There are three targerts within 20minutes which open at 8am, then a Bestbuy and Circuit City and two Compusa's that all open at 10. I will hit up the one or two targets and if no luck then, hit up a one of the 10am opening stores.

What ever you do, never ever list an item that is not in your immediate possesion. Untill it touches your hands, do not list it on ebay.

why? they allow pre-order sales as long as you list it as such.

A lot of the smaller game stores have already sold out on their first shipment of preorders (EB, Gamestop). By small, I mean the individual stores and not the company. That being said, your best bet would be to get it at a place that doesn't have any preorders.

If you really want one at launch and haven't preordered already, I would recommend camping out at some of the less trendy video game places like Toys R Us or Target. Costco might carry it as well.

My local Toys R Us is so dead that I can always count on them having stuff in stock when the EB or GameStop one block away is sold out.

I will add some more rumor to the post....

Some sources are saying that bestbuy and targets and so forth will have between 20-50. With target telling their employees to go out at 6am to hand out numbers to people in line for the 8am opening...

The preorder lists are typically 20-40% of the ordered quantity, because they want to have the units in stock, when a demand is this high. The make a grip on the accessories and tend to sell quite a bit of them on these release dates. I have also been told from a couple of GMs of the larger stores that they will be limiting the purchases to one per customer, for those waiting in line.
