Thumbs up OK. I've been silent long enough, buy Space Rangers 2!

This game is incredible. It's like Privateer as a turn-based strategy game plus Japan's World Simulator, plus RTS Z Robots plus 80's arcade Time Pilot... all rolled into one incredibly cool game.

It's been a VERY long time (not since Chrono Cross for the PS1) that I have thought of a video game while at work, and couldn't wait to get home to play it.

Basically what Elemental games did is create a TONS of laws of the universe, then created 50 bots (the space rangers) and who-knows-how-many Dominators (the bad guys, basically, the borg) and unleashed them and their well-written AI on a randomly-created galaxy. The result, a game that feels real, like the galaxy is a big place, and you are just another citizen trying to make your mark. I know this sounds kinda odd for a video game to not have the player in the role of "galactic hero" while the rest of the galaxy is powerless to do anything.

For instance,
There's a grand war on, and you can jump in and be a good little soldier and play your part, and make a small contribution to the war effort or you can take advantage of the situation and clean up the pieces after the military and the Dominators have it out.

As the game progresses you get more powerful equipment and your presence can actually shift the tide of a battle.

The quest system is very cool too. There are lots of types of quests (precious few are go-kill-get-return), most requiring a game save before attempting because they are HARD. The unique thing about the quests is you can ask for an easier set of goals (for less reward) or a more ambitious mission (for more reward).

Anyway, read the reviews and buy this game.

My only beef is the only online-part of the game happens when you "win" (retire or whoop the Dominators) and you get to submit your scores and character career.

Unfortunately, the game has yet to be released in the US-you will prolly have to pick it up at www.gogamer.com (as I did) (caveat: it installs Starforce, but I have yet to run into ANY stability problems)
