Guitar Hero

This might be the best game ever.

Here's a link to the review of it.

It's pretty tough to explain in words what makes this game so awesome, but if you've ever played and enjoyed the games Frequency, Amplitude, or Guitar Freaks you will absolutely love this game.

It's a bit pricey because it comes with a 3/4 size plastic guitar that you use to play the notes.

The game is made by the same guys that did Amplitude and has a similar playing and scoring format. It is also loaded with a ton of songs and gets very challenging at the higher levels. You can find a list of the songs over here.

Anyone else try this game out yet?

Here's the full list of songs:
  • Motorhead - "Ace of Spades"
  • Ozzie Osbourne - "Bark at the Moon"
  • Audioslave - "Cochise"
  • Pantera - "Cowboys From Hell"
  • Cream - "Crossroads"
  • Sum 41 - "Fat Lip"
  • Edgar Winter Group - "Frankenstein"
  • Blue Oyster Cult - "Godzilla"
  • Burning Brides - "Heart Full of Black"
  • The Exies - "Hey You"
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Higher Ground"
  • Joann Jett - "I Love Rock and Roll"
  • The Ramones - "I Wanna Be Sedated"
  • Bad Religion - "Infected"
  • Black Sabbath - "Iron Man"
  • Queen - "Killer Queen"
  • Boston - "More Than A Feeling"
  • Queens of the Stone Age - "No One Knows"
  • ZZ Top - "Sharp Dressed Man"
  • Deep Purple - "Smoke on the Water"
  • Jimi Hendrix - "Spanish Castle Magic"
  • Incubus - "Stellar"
  • Megadeth - "Symphony of Destruction"
  • The Donnas - "Take It Off"
  • Franz Ferdinand - "Take Me Out"
  • Stevie Ray Vaughn - "Texas Flood"
  • White Zombie - "Thunderkiss 65"
  • Helmet - "Unsung"
  • Judas Priest - "You Got Another Thing Comin"
  • David Bowie - "Ziggy Stardust"
  • Acro-Brats - "Call Out"
  • Anarchy Club - "Behind the Mask"
  • Artillery - "The Breaking Wheel"
  • Black Label Society - "Fire It Up"
  • Count Zero - "Sail Your Ship By"
  • Din - "Fly on the Wall"
  • Drist - "Decontrol"
  • Freezepop - "Get Ready 2 Rock"
  • Graveyard BBQ - "Cheat on the Church"
  • Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives - "Hey"
  • Made in Mexico - "Farewell Myth"
  • Monkey Steal the Peach - "Theme from Guitar Hero"
  • The Bags - "Caveman Rejoice"
  • The Model Sons - "The Story of my Love"
  • The Slip - "Even Rats"
  • The Upper Crust - "Eureka! I Found Love"
  • Shaimus - "All of This"

looks super a-ok! more fun than the donkey konga thing. I think I might just have to pick one up.

LPM and spigidygak, did you guys end up getting the game?

If so, how did you like it?

I received it as a Christmas present and decided to bring it with to my friend's house one night while we were drinking....it was a hit. It seemed like anyone could just jump in and play and have a great time doing it...just wish we had a second SG controller to plug in.

I just finished all the songs on expert; Bark at the Moon and Cowboys From Hell are tough!

One of my roommates at school is trying to rack up five stars on every song on expert....I think that's insane, but maybe there's some more unlockable stuff you can get with that.

Anyone else give this game a try yet? I noticed they had it set up at my local Best Buy the other week.

I've been wanting this game, but I'm in the middle of Katamari 2 and Star Ocean.

Is it really worth dropping the other two?

Wow.

That guy displays some fantastic technique and great proficiency using his pinky.

I'm just wondering how many times he had to play the song to memorize the solo like that (to be able to hit nearly ALL the hammer ons and pull-offs like that).

Maybe he hooked it up to his VCR and recorded a run through the song so he could work on memorizing the hard parts?

My favorite part is from about 1:37-1:42 where he uses only hammer-ons and pull-offs to perform the main riff.

I just got this game. WOW...it's awesome.

One small problem though. The dog started playing in front of the PS2, got caught up in the cables and yanked my PS2 (while on) out of the cabinet.
The disc is now horribly scratched in 3 places, and I've had it less than a day.

Am I SOL, or can I replace just the game without having to fork over another $70?

they would likely allow you to exchange the disc, depending on where you bought it.

I can't play the guitar, so no, you don't have to know how.

The screen just brings colored buttons at you and you have to press the right button at the right time. It's quite a bit easier than trying to play a guitar, and it's a ton of fun playing cover songs.

Here's what it looks like:

Indeed, that was funny.

It is a little misleading for the Hammer On/Pull Off's though -- you actually have to hold a few buttons in at the same time to do it. For example:

sequence of G-R-Y right together: You'd need to strum while hitting green, then hold green and press Red, then keep holding both while pressing Yellow.

I've been reading that the sequel (NOVEMBER 7!!!) has redone the hammer ons and pull offs to be a bit more lenient, so that will be pretty helpful.

I can't wait for it to come out....in fact, since they've released a lot of information lately I'm going to update the sequel thred
