Heh Xbox 360 scalpers robbed at gunpoint

Xbox 360 scalpers robbed at gunpoint

Quote:
A group of would-be scalpers were robbed of four newly purchased Xbox 360s while dining at an Anchorage (Alaska) McDonalds—adding to the reports of 360-related gun violence.

A group of five males, ages 14 to 24, scored five Xbox 360s (limit one per customer) early Sunday morning at a Best Buy in South Anchorage. Later, they tried to sell off two of those units for $600 each to people still in line. When no one accepted their generous offer, the group headed out to Mickey Ds for a bite to eat.

The 14-year-old was left in care of the Xboxes while the other four men ate breakfast inside. At that point, at least two men who had observed the failed scalping attempt and followed the bunch to McDonalds, approached the van where the boy was keeping watch, put a gun to his face, and made off with four of the units—the fifth 360 had been stashed under the boy’s seat. The moral is: greed begets greed; that, or be sure to pack heat when toting around an Xbox 360…

Idiots.

Or how about not leaving a 14 year old by himself while the older guys grab some grub. Well no one got hurt.

why are they idiots? they don't deserve to be robbed just because they are capitalizing on the crazy market for the units.

While I'll admit I chuckled a bit at this, I'm with Cheapie. This sucks for them.

They don't deserved to be robbed. They should have been smarter and put them up on ebay. They would have sold. People are just plain stupid for spending that much when they can wait a month or two and get one. Just stupid IMO.

People are not wrong to offer to sell something they legaly aquired. That's just commerce. The theives most likely did not keep their ill gotten games, they probably sold them for $600+ each.

They didn't have time to put them on Ebay because they made a pit stop at Mc Donalds on the way to wherever and then they were robbed.

I think they were idiots for not driving directly home with them...which is bad enough, but then they stop and leave them in the care of a defenseless 14 y/o...1 juvenile?

What they were doing (scalping) is their own business...but sheesh go home and order a pizza if you're hungry.

one should not assume that you are going to be robbed if you are in posession of something valueable. the only that's somewhat amusing is that it happened to people that were trying to resell the units.

if someone else had purchased them and been robbed at gunpoint i doubt anyone would be laughing.

I'll be honest - I don't feel sorry for them. I think what they were doing was messed up but at the same time it doesn't negate the fact that they stopped to eat something after buying several sought-after items (spending over a couple thousand dollars) instead of driving home first. If I'm going out somewhere to buy something expensive (say, a computer, or a plasma tv) and I know the item will be sitting in my car in plain view of anyone passing by...I will go to that store *last* and drive home after leaving that store. I won't go buy the computer and then go to the grocery store or the mall and shop for an hour, or go to the movie theater and catch a matinee for 2 hrs. That's just plain dumb.

The only story I've read about someone being robbed of one that I felt sorry for was a mother who was outside a store all night the night before and then came home and was robbed of an Xbox 360 while at her doorstep trying to unlock the door...it's sad her kids won't get the present they wanted this year.

how in the world can you say that? the people didn't rob them because they sat around, or because the units were in plain sight. they followed them over there and stuck the gun in the kid's face.

After being complete arses and trying to sell the units to people who had been waiting in line for hours.

Personally, Karma is a biotch. To flagrantly wave that crap in front of peoples faces when you *know* they are desperate to get one is stupidity and unfair.

Why don't people find others who want one and sell it for a reasonable profit, 10% or so. No, instead people decided to capitalize on desperation and greed of something that nobody really needs.

it's a GAME! if they were inflating the prices of generators or food, or warm clothes then i would agree.

Depends.

The argument for generators (or gas for that matter), I assume, stems from hurricanes.

Who needs a generator in the aftermath of a hurricane? People to power their TV and refrigerators or businesses who can power whole grocerie stores or essential services?

Who is better able to afford higher priced generators? Who should be able to afford them?

Even better, if the prices are higher, then that motivates stores and people to ship them to devistated areas. The market will set the price for that essential good.

However, with games, as you so aptly put it, should be less...stupid. Those taking advantage of the materialism and stupidity of others deserve what they get.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

my point is that it's not something they "need". it's a toy that people are willing to pay a premium for to get it now instead of a few weeks when it's more readily available.

So that somehow justifies people gouging other's in their quest for a material object of no real-life consequence?

LK is on the same thought train as me with this topic. The way I look at it...if you go around looking for trouble (ie gouging just to make a buck), trouble will find you.

Here's some more food for thought - what if the people who robbed them of the Xboxes were the same people sitting outside of the store? What if the people who were robbed were complete jackasses outside of the store after getting theirs...you know...'nyah nyah look what we got ha ha ha'...and they pissed off the wrong person. (There's no factual evidence to justify this 'thought', but it's certainly possible.)
