GUN (and my broken PS2's rant)
Last Thursday, Toys R Us was having some obscene markdowns on video games. They had about 250 games (all platforms) available for $10. After work, I wondered on down to my local TRU, and purchased 5 games, including GUN, for $100. (Gun, Socom II, SRS, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, Killzone)[All PS2)
First game I popped open was Gun. Loved the visuals, nice little tutorial at the beginning to explain all the controls. Once finished with that, it went into the first major cutscene. About 20 seconds in, the game hangs. Crap. Start over, same thing happens at the same place. Crap. Start over, get to the cutscene, skip it, continue playing. After figuring out my objective (since I couldn't watch the scene) I get to the next cutscene, game hangs. ![]() Great, I have to skip all the cutscenes. Fine, whatever, I can figure out what's going on fairly easily. Well, after playing for a few hours, my character moves on to the next town. From this new town, Empire, you can still go back to your original starting town, Dodge City. Cool, I missed some side mission in Dodge City, so I'll ride my horse back, and complete everything. I ride back, and I notice that, even though the character doesn't zone in the traditional sense, the PS2 doesn't keep all the graphics rendered at all times, usually as you get to a certain point, it will render the graphics so everything is seemless. Well as I'm riding back, some of the zones aren't rendering until I've ran my character upto the 'zone' and sat there, running into it for a few seconds. Minor inconvience, whatever. So fastforward a few days, and I'm playing on a different, older, PS2. same stuff is happening with the cutscenes and rendering. UGH! And it's only this 1 game. I've played all my new games, with no problems. I really wish Gun would work. My Memory card isn't full. My PS2's don't have problems with any of the other games I have, just this one. Anyways, It's a great game, when I get to play it =\ |

I have heard of "things" like this happening with different games and consoles. First I would try exchanging the game for a new one, probably wont help the situation, but it is worth the try. Secondly, my friend had problems like this with his gamecube and xbox and I have had similar problems with ps2. We had problems with a game on his xbox, it would hang in the beginning of the game at a load scene, we eventually one time lucked out and it moved on....just to lock up a few minutes later. It worked perfect on my system, and all other games worked fine on his xbox (the one that was hanging). We called xbox...long story in a final sentence....it was an older xbox, and either being old or an older version xbox, that was the reason. So we were told to trade it in and buy a new xbox....

Sounds like a defective game disc (especially if all your other games work fine and this game messes up on another Ps2). Just take it back & get another one; even with it being opened they'll exchange a defective one for you.
