Thumbs up F.e.a.r

ok...so this game is prolly the scariest game I've ever played in my life! I actually screamed at one part. honestly...if I had a full bladder during that part...I prolly would have pissed myself. This was prolly 4 days ago, and I've been too scared to play since.

When I start up again, I'll play with the lights on. I've been playing with lights off because it adds to the effect, but I don't think I can heck it anymore. I'll still play with the sound all the way up because I can't let go on that. BUT FREAKING ARSE, THIS GAME IS SCARY!!!

Yea, i have played some as well, much scarier than Doom 3, even scarier than Eternal Darkness. I agree that it is probably the scariest game I ever played. (Well I was much younger when Doom 2 came out, that was pretty scary to me, but F.E.A.R is probably still scarier.)

I have it, but haven't installed it yet.
Probably will this weekend. Which is good, since, you know, I'll be up all night for New Years anyway.

Totally get it, it's an amazing game, and hellishly demanding on your comp too (which is good ) The graphics are nothing short of amazing, and given a future mod that lightens the place up a little bit, it'll be a greater game -- i think so at least --.
The attention they took to detail is stunning, and (aside from the robot-thingys) the realism is fantastic.
I had a nightmare the first night I played the game, heh.

It's a FPS with a lot of sci-fi twists like Half-Life.
Some of the videos I've seen of the game, like your character falls through a glass window on the floor and he falls to the floor below, and then he looks up to where the window he just fell through was, but it's not a window - it's a tiled ceiling.

Spooky stuff. Enemies appear and disappear...sorta like your character is going insane. It also has some sort of bullet time and a lot of high end special effects (like motion trails from bullets/grenades flying through the air while you're in bullet time)...lots of particle effects, etc.

It's supposed to be hard (demanding) on most computers; it requires a lot of cpu power and a mid to high end graphics card (from what I understand) and even then you might have framerate problems at higher resolutions. Me - I'm just hoping to run it at 60fps 800x600 on my P4 3.0C, 1g DDR400 ram, Radeon 9500...that's good enough for me. (Most games I play at 800x600.) If I can use FSAA, that's another plus, but I just hope I can get the game to run smooth enough on what I have 'cause I'm not upgrading it anytime soon (ie I'm too broke).

Official website is here.

I finished it in a few days, but that was on lowest difficulty. Story line is weak, but yes, quite chilling. The part where you almost pissed yourself...was when you climbed down the ladder?
The game runs fairly well on my Dell 9300 (256vid/512ram) on "medium" settings. Got a bit choppy a few times, but the vast majority of scenes were OK.

ETA: What did kind of suck was how long it takes to load the game from the main menu. It's been years since I've played a game that took that long to load.

I'm torn between starting this one or starting up Battlefield 2 tonight -- and judging by the fact I can't seem to reach any of the guys who encouraged me to play BF2, I just might pop F.E.A.R. into my XPS2 and see how it runs.

i played FEAR too while daversinger let me borrow a 6800GT lol. the game was great, and maximum pc was right about the AI, it's pretty amazing. they were also right about one of the really annoying things: the autosaves predict every battle you're about to encounter. still a great game though!

Just played the single-player demo. I had all the lights dimmed and sound turned up. It was pretty freightening. The most memorable part of the game was when the sound of the character breathing got rougher right when I was feeling scared or suspicious of something about to go down. It totally added to the emotional/atmospheric effect. And yes, a couple spare pairs of undies would be nice to have handy.
