I have a friend that works at MS and she was saying this isn't even the full release.

So if I put Vista Beta on my desktop, what will happen once the real version comes out?

It says they will give you a 30% discount on an upgrade to the full one.

that beta install will cease and desist, rendering ANYTHING and everything you put in that install useless. i think it expires june 1st, 2007 (or something close to that date). Even MS put that on their site as a caveat to people that downloaded the bigass file.

so make sure you DO NOT install the beta on your main machine (or even try to dual-boot with it), and no important data is saved on it.

of course you probably know about that already, but just a precaution...

if MS is going to give a discount to upgrade to the full release, id be surprised. Well not by much - one would think they want people to switch over to the new OS, so they may offer that incentive. Possibly just an upgrade version, not a full version.

i guess we'll know when they realease it...

Thanks for the explanation. Speaking of release, is there a projected date for it?

It keeps getting pushed back. I believe the original date was December 2005. Now they are saying next year. Maybe. Hopefully they are trying to make sure it has no bugs in it before they release it.

If that's the case, it will NEVER be released!

LOL!!!!!! You must be on drugs!
(I am just kidding with you, I am sure that is what they are attempting to do, but they will fail!)

I can guarantee you that MS is not under the delusion that they can release a major OS without any bugs. I'm sure they have a process for categorizing them, like showstopper, serious, medium, minor, and criteria for what is acceptable in a release (such as 0 showstopper, 0 serious, n medium, nnn minor). I can also guarantee you that every release of every OS they have ever (and will ever) have has an internal list of known bugs.
