Took Topamax for about a year, finally had to stop. First of all, it is an anti-seizure medication, so you have to slowly ramp-up when you start taking it and slowly ramp-down when you go off of it, otherwise you can actually cause a seizure (even with no prior history of seizures!).

Secondly, it made me dumber than a bag of hammers (to the point where it was noticeable to my co-workers, friends and family). I'd be half-way through a sentence and forget what the hell I was even talking about! I was in my mid-forties and felt like I had early-onset Alzheimer's.

Thirdly, it made some foods/drinks taste really awful. Don't know how or why, but it did.

It did seem to help a little with the migraines (better than Imatrex, which made me feel worse than the migraine...). And I lost 10 pounds, which is also common...BB

I've never heard of these symptoms. I've been on this for nearly 2 years due to a head injury at work. I take a 50 mg dose twice daily. No memory loss. No weight loss either,(damn, could use that. ). And it doesn't affect the taste of food or drink.
