Just received the DVD. I have to say, with all the hype, I'm a disappointed, not with the quality of the DVD (it's great), but the movie itself. If anyone has seen those old, lenghty Chinese epic romance/martial art, CTHD fails in comparation.

I disagree, it was such a relief from watching people attacking with their hair in Bride With White Hair. That USED to be my favorite chinese/kunfu/romance flick, till CTHD came out.

Just got the e-mail, hehe. I just want to watch CTHD in the comfort of my own home, is that too much to ask?

I got my DVD without a notification of anything (no order confirmation, no shipping notice, nothing!). It just arrived at my house. Don't worry.

Finally got it!!! The only thing that doesn't work was the trailer, but who needs that when you have the movie. The English dubbing is excellent, and I found myself having to watch the whole thing right when I put it in my player. Totally worth it!

Without getting to in depth, it was a phenominal martial arts movie because of the combination of action and the intricate sub-plots. You just had to let yourself go and appreciate what ang lee was creating for the viewer. Not everyone has to like the movie, but judging from the 11 or so nominations it got, most people do.

hears a tip when watching the dvd for all the mandarin speaking/understanding ppl who thought the movie was horrible.. turn on the english subtitles.. and then watch the movie again.. you'll be surprised how good the movie really is... the trick is to treat it as an american movie.. which it really is.. and kind of just pretend you dont understand the dialogs.. the movie will makes much more sense..
i think one of the reason why most ppl did not like this in asia was simply cus how horrible the original dialogs were.. you can totaly tell it was originally an english script that was then translated into chinese.. very inconsistant.. for the main characters.. first theres the thick mandarin accent.. and they all speak very modern day mandarin that feels out of place.. especially jen.. who totally talks like she just time traveled from the mordern days or something.. and then you have all the supporting characters speaking the older formal chinese that usually appears in these kinda movies.. it actually kinda funny to watch them talking to eachother like that.. i cant belive they let this thing actually go in the theaters in asia w/ a script like that... and its no surprise that all the asian critics totally bashed the movie down... this movie really didnt too well in asia despite all the awards... now the english subtitles.. they are totally something else.. written very intellegently.. and present the movie a lot better.. clearly the intended audiance here is the american/english speaking ppl here... the first time i saw it.. was a asian cam capped vcd.. combined w/ the bad quality.. i really thot the movie sucked and made no sense what so ever.. i was baffled just like most my chinese speaking friends.. why so many ppl liked this movie.. and then.. i got to see the movie again.. on dvd.. w/ english subtitles.. now i finally understand... its amazing how the exact same pictures you see can totally be come so much more enjoyable when the appropriate script is acompanied.. the point here is.. if you can exprience the same thing that the target audience expriences.. then i think the movie becomes much more enjoyable...
