The JBL PSW-D112 12" subwoofer with 250 watt digital amplifier is back at mercata last time I looked it was at $210 - 20% = $168. I really want to get one but after reading some really bad reviews at audioreview I am starting to question the value of the deal. Have any of you purchased one of these from mercata? Its 50 lb weight is a real problem for returns.

I am going to tell you right now, do not buy that sub. I have listened to it at the store and it is not really that great in quality. If I were you I would save a little more cash and get an ENERGY, M&K, or Mission sub-woofer. They make the best subs in my opinion (especially M&K).

And I am going to tell you the exact opposite. I have had one now for several months and have had no problems with it. Friends with Yamaha, Infinity, and other brands of subs are impressed by the sound. Many of the people who complain about the sound of a particular sub don't understand how important placement is and how greatly it can impact the sound of the sub.

I read all the Audio Review stuff, too, before I bought mine, and it appears they may have had a bad batch go out at some point, but I have had no trouble with mine. The only negative thing I can think of is that JBL may not recognize your warranty if you buy it from a "non-authorized" dealer, but for the price, I say get it, use it like crazy for the duration of the return period, and send it back if you have any problems or aren't satisfied.

Good luck!

The sub is great for the price. The blowing is from incorrectly connecting it. Connect it the right way and you should have no problems (something audioreview DOESN'T tell you).

If you have the money to blow, nothing compares to the Velodyne HGS-18. Period.

In the car audio world JBL is usually referred to as "Junk But Loud". I know this from personal experience as well. I haven't really listened to much of the home theater products that JBL has so I can't comment on their quality.

But I would be interested Apex, do you have one of those Velodyne subs? Have you ever heard a pair of DIY 12 inch Focal(or other) subs on 1000watts? I haven't heard the Velodyne subs in person, but of all the room shaking equipment I have ever heard the do it yourself stuff has always been the best by a huge margin at a very reasonable price.

I got a chance to listen to many in the same class as the PSWD (Infinity BU Series, Yamaha YST, KLH, Cerwin-Vega, Bose) as well as a few of the better ones (Sunfire, Acoustic Research, Atlantic Research, Energy, Klispch, Paradigm, as well as the industry standard: Velodyne HGS-18). I don't have an HGS yet, but one day. The one I listened to was hooked up to a B&W setup and the new Yamaha 6.1 system.

It is now down to $202! Is there a quick and easy way to get $40 in Mercata points to put towards %20 it? My $100 bonus expired and they won't give anyone in my family the bonus.

I bought the sub last week also, and would definitely recommend it. It's a lot bigger than I expected and if you ever get greedy for bass you can hook up another sub to it in the future.

For $160 with the discount you can't go wrong.
